Cats of Steemit: Introducing My Little Diva - Miss Ava

Hello lovely Steemian friends,

A change of pace today as we head away from travels and talk about something else dear to my heart.

My furry princess cat Miss Ava.

There seems to be an obsession going around the Discord channels at the moment and everyone is cat crazy. It's like all the cat lovers in the world have ended up on the same Discord channel.

Kitty lover heaven I tell you.

Inspired by @bearone's post here and @goldenarms post here who's cats have their own introductory post... well Miss Ava who is quite a diva decided it was high time she was formally introduced.

She made this quite obvious by sitting on my keyboard and holding my mouse hand down.. now how the hell did she know that was a mouse!

Ava, like all our previous pets, is a rescue pet, having been brought to the vet after 3 weeks of her rescuers trying to catch her in the local national park - she was all of 6 weeks old.

Now I have spent years nagging, cajoling and pleading with my husband for a cat (never mind his cat allergies or traumatic childhood kitten experience). Enter a long weekend where we ended up babysitting this cute little rescue kitten. 3 days was all it took and he was sold!

Mind you she spent the first week under the couch and wouldn't come out so he probably figured it was really not like having a cat at all:)

But believe you me that shyness - at least with her own humans - disappeared pretty quickly when she realised she just had to look cute and could manipulate us in to almost anything.

I mean just look at all that fluff-muppet cuteness!

She has definitely developed personality and attitude over the last five years and will spend a great deal of the day having a conversation with you.

Most of it involves -

"let me out" and five minutes later "let me in"

and of course -

"no I'm not using the cat door that cost $800 to install in your sliding glass door - you can open the screendoor for me"

oh and then there's her favourite

"I need Tuna - no one's given me Tuna today.... I swear.. no one has.... I need it NOW!"

Her favourite time of the day is usually between 3 and 4 am which involves bashing the cat door to see if it's unlocked, scratching the ensuite door because that's much more fun than a scratching post, biting toes because squealing humans is like Hilarious!

She's definitely got it worked out.

Recently she has decided to get involved with my Book Club Blog - on which she voices her very vocal opinion of the books we read together, plus her own diary entries... here is just one example.

"Well it’s cold and wet and the she-Human has been sick this week so we are sooooo far behind on our book-reading.. and the last one was that dreaded dog book which they have apparently made in to a movie! I mean could you think of sitting through anything worse? Oh maybe re-runs of Lassie or Old Yella. You can find our review of A Dog’s Purpose in Reviews.. Apparently SHE liked it!

Anyhow, ‘She who is Named Shelly’ decided she would wake up at 1.30 this morning and she seemed to be quite grumpy for the next 2 and a half hours. Then she fell back asleep, but not to worry, I got on to it before it had time to kick in, with the good old scratching on the ensuite door . Works a treat by the way if you are looking for a tip to get them up at night – I still don’t understand why they don’t insist on sleeping through the day like any intelligent creature – even dog-critter managed to work that one out. Anyway.. I’m pretty sure she’s eternally grateful to me today for ensuring I keep on top of her sleep habits… human training must remain consistent – regardless of our frustration.

It is supposedly raining this weekend so it looks like it will be books by the fire place with a glass of red. Perfect lap snuggling weather. I’m really pushing for the Streetcat book so I can get a look at the fine specimen on the cover.. but she’s picked up something to do with princesses (Okay I get that, like totally!), brides (meh), and pirates (only rogue I like is Puss’n’Boots..now he’s a honey) and some humans with stupid names like Buttercup and Westley.

There had better be a cat is all I can say.

Time to go snooze.. all that thinking was exhausting!"_

I really don't know where she get's her attitude.

I can tell you now her least favourite book has been "A Dog's Purpose". Not surprising.. she barely tolerates our dog, who she refers to as "dog-critter".. making sure he goes outside every morning when it's time to get up - she actually smacks him on the butt and chases him to the door. Often she rolls in front of him so he sniffs her tummy and then sinks the claws into his nose... Really - who needs kids!

We are definitely her humans almost 6 months after she came to take over our house we were off on a long planned overseas trip for 6 months and friends house sat and looked after Ava and our dog Jesse. They continually sent us pictures of all the cuddles she was getting, while I consoled myself chasing around and photographing every stray cat I could find through the Middle East and Europe.

I was certain when we returned home she would feel our friends were her now her humans. But she was right back with us from the moment we walked through the door. She really did know.

People who aren't cat lovers use the excuse that cat wont love you unconditionally.. I don't actually believe that for a moment. Of course like most cats she comes when she wants, shes demanding she's needy and she seems to do things on her terms. But she is loyal to a fault, she knows when we just need love and cuddles or not feeling the best.

She really is our little baby.

So yes I might be a crazy cat lady... but I'm crazy and proud!
