Human sacrifice, child sacrifice
In India human sacrifice is mainly known as "Narabali".
Here "nara" means man and "bali" means sacrifice.

As the West navigates pedophilia, PizzaGate & ritual killings, the East has been cursed by the scourge of infanticide. One of the major altars for ritualistic murder of infants was the mouth of the Hooghly river.
Infanticide has been socially & spiritually acceptable & even encourged, with varying intensity right across the Indian sub-continent.
We have tried our best to curb human sacrifices, but what can an agency
do when an entire village chooses a victim and cuts off his head with his
parent’s consent? Human sacrifice under our law is treated as murder,
but the killer – never found – is always the local high priest.
At times the local policemen are reluctant to take action because of the
inbred fear of the gods and goddesses.

Kali devotees, about two hundred years ago, habitually sacrificed a human boy every day at Kolkatta Kali temples. Today, human sacrifice is illegal in India & Nepal. Animals are subsituted in the place of humans.

The sick & dying were often to the banks of the holy rivers & allowed to pass away.
Ghat murders : When a person is on the point of death, relations carry him on his bed, or on a litter, to the Ganges, while being dragged from his bed, friends & family. Whether cold or hot, from near or afar, exposed to the elements, a victim is left at the river side, where he lies & dies. The practice, though veiled is simple murder.
A common Durga or Kali sacrifice was the throwing of infants into the mouth of the Hooghly river, where they either drowned or were devoured by sharks. In 1802, Governor-General Lord Wellesley abolished infant sacrifice, after the Baptist missionary William Carey presented him with a report on the abomination.
While human sacrifice is illegal in India, a few cases do occur in remote & underdeveloped regions of the country, in tribal & semi-tribal groups areas.

British India initially ignored sacrifice of infants out of a desire not to interfere in the religious matters of the natives, who were keen to sacrifice themselves and their children for salvation & to escape the karma-samsara cycle.

Mahakali
We can debate about among Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Lord Bentinck, or William Carey deserves credit for abolishing infanticide, sati, the slave trade, or the exposure of the sick & the dying in the India.
What is beyond debate is that these were some the warriors in the fight against Kali.
Why learn about Kali?
