ART MIX-UP CONTEST RESULTS | 03 🥂🥂🥂

Every week I challenge multidisciplinary artists on steemit to submit their genre-bending work to the ART MIX-UP CONTEST.

This week, I do apologize for the results being released a bit late! I’m working a few large deadlines for work contracts, and I do not have a lot of time for steemit. I’ll be back to regular schedule ASAP. Thanks for bearing with me in the meantime. I appreciate you!

I’m looking for quality art submissions that defy genres, break expectations, and contribute something new to art forms that have been around for a long time. I also look for documentation of process, because that’s one of the best parts of using the steemit platform to showcase your work!

To recap, here are the rules! I asked artists to...

(1) Follow me. Upvote the post. Resteem the post. And...

(2) Create a post sharing a piece of their own work (or a collaboration they played a key role in) that mixes 2 or more artistic genres! This might mean sharing a video, an image, writing, a sound clip, or something else (who knows!). And...

(3) Write AT LEAST 100 WORDS describing the work and the artistic techniques at play. And...

(4) Document their process! And...

(5) Use the hashtag #artmixupcontest. And...

(6) Drop the link to their post in the comments. That’s the only way I accept submissions!

Because the posts were so high quality this week, I decided to hand out a little extra SBD. Here’s the breakdown -- 12 sbd total!

First Place - 4sbd
Second Place - 3sbd
Third Place - 2sbd
Three Honorable Mentions - 3sbd (1sbd each!)

So, without further ado...

First place and 4sbd this week go to @Wildempress for her Art Mix-Up Contest entry!

@Wildempress is an artist to take note of on steemit. She is creating beautiful, multimedia work regularly--and releasing her original content here first! Her work is lyrical, magical, thoughtful, and detailed. It’s uniquely feminine, but also strong and fearless. As a woman, all of her artwork makes me proud to have a feminine essence--and this particular piece was especially striking to me. I love the fearless gaze of the red-headed young woman in the image, accomplished by using eyes from a real-life photograph to enhance the piercing stare. If you aren’t following this account, you really should do so immediately!

Second place and 3sbd go to @katrina-ariel for taking us on a magical adventure through the woods near Whistler BC in her short 4-minute film made in a 72-hour festival: ELEMENTAL.

What I love about this short film is that it’s fearless, natural, honest, and completely showcases Katrina’s spirit. I love when artists aren’t afraid to put themselves out on the line and expose who they are at their inner core. In this piece, she’s totally done that, combining so many different levels of artistry and identity in her work. Although it’s something she made awhile ago, she has also delivered a beautifully written post showing us how the film was made and telling its story! I’m honored she chose to share a piece that is so obviously close to her in this contest...and even more delighted that I get to write about it and share it with all of you!

Third place and 2sbd go to @zailecita who is wowing me again with a beautiful, collaborative photography project: Fusionando el sentir.

This time she is overlaying self-portraits with photographs of flowers from a fellow photographer friend. The effect is beautiful, and a celebration of herself and her personal beauty. I love when women aren’t afraid to celebrate themselves and draw connections between the natural world and their own presence. @Zailecita is an artist who obviously is very interested in the connection between all that is sacred, the natural world, and feminine presence. She’s one to watch, for sure! Her posts are in Spanish, but I’ve found that it easily translates on Google and that her writing is interesting and poetical even over translator!

First honorable mention and 1sbd go to @felt.buzz for: "Fussy" a needle-felted Felt.Buzz Rabbit (called Buzz Bunny) reads a Felt.Buzz story told in #FiftyWords for @lilyraabe's ArtMixUpContest

Even though this post didn’t quite make it into the top 3 this week, it was a very close call because I absolutely love what @felt.buzz is doing with this idea. My boyfriend and I both watched this video and actually laughed out loud because it is charming, fun, and interesting (and he has a great narration voice!). I sincerely hope that @felt.buzz keeps experimenting with these creations, I think 50-word stories, voice-over, and original felt art is a pretty fantastic combination! Show him some love, because his creativity deserves it.

Another honorable mention and 1sbd go to @huslein.slash for his: Art Mix-up Corn Husk Leaves And Watercolors- The Fox (Bilingual).

This is an artist who should 100% be on your radar. He is constantly growing and expanding as an artist and steemit creator, watching his journey (and his high standards for his posts and content) is amazing. I love what he created this week, the intricacy of the geometric work using corn husks (such a simple material!) is incredible. I also love how he documents his process in all of his posts, he has an eye for detail and organization that makes everything he posts a pleasure to read!

Another honorable mention and 1sbd go to @cellosht for his deceptively simple work: ART MIX-UP CONTEST #03 : PERFORMANCE COLLABORATION

I can’t get over how this artist creates such impact with such simple materials. @Cellosht’s work is done using brown tape, plastic, a knife, and light to create these stunning effects. I am in awe of some of the things he is able to create with raw creativity, and this is another incredible example. Definitely check him out!

The last honorable mention and 1sbd go to @evostruct for his incredible work and process writing for: Graphical Journeys.

This artist examines geometric relationships in space and time. He is focused on finding patterns and seeing how those patterns interrelate, talk to each other, and create new variances and discoveries. It is interesting to read about how his mind works as he creates, then solves geometric patterns for himself that impact his art and process. After checking out this post, you’ll have a whole new appreciation for the complexity of making an image like this one!

And there you have it! The results of the ART MIX-UP CONTEST | 03. Stay tuned for the announcement of the next contest coming soon!
