Where there exists the will, a way shall be found.
This is a fundamental truth and it is with a bitter after-taste that I firstly attribute this statement to terrorism.
The current trend of using common vehicles to maim and kill civilians has been rapidly gaining favor among those of the inclination to do so.
Vehicles are so prevalent in society that they ironically make for an excellent weapon.
And when you think that many road ways are these days designed with vehicles rather than pedestrians in mind - this makes them all the more so.

Ever since 9/11, and probably long before that event, governments around the World have been clamping down upon and chipping away at various civil rights, allegedly in the name of national security.
Guantanamo (incarcerate-and-more-without-trial) Bay...
The (spy-on-your-own-citizens) "Patriot" Act...
Various Wars (with nations and countless lives decimated)...
It hasn't really worked out for anybody (other than the very few)... has it?
If we were to continue down this misguided path then there would come a point where we could look back in search of that point where humans officially became cattle with all the rights of a cow in a milking stall.

Incidentally - I now feel at liberty to admit that the likelihood of direct vehicular use for the purposes of terrorism had long crossed my mind as something to watch out for. That was quite a few years ago while counting the ways that government measures didn't measure up to the task that they were purportedly aimed towards achieving - reestablishing the safety of society. Why have I not mentioned it sooner? I did not wish to be the genesis for such a horrid idea - and sometimes keeping one's imagination to oneself truly is the best defense.
I only once confided with policing authorities over what I perceived to be a strong potential threat to a 'celebrity entity'. I was coerced into questioning down at central for my trouble.
That aside, you see, regardless of all the indignities that human beings are cowed into accepting as normal at airports and ever more pervasive checkpoints, it is beyond impractical for those same entities to clamp down upon vehicles. It kind of runs contrary to the whole mobility thing that motor vehicles are the primary provider for.
Not even banning vehicles would erase the issue. Any old car can get stolen and used for the purpose.

And so we find ourselves at a crossroads yet again. We have mounting evidence as to what is 'not' working in the so-called "war on terror"(other far more competent minds are digging up information that ought to get any reasonably intelligent mind to pause and savor their "WTF?!" moments).
...'sigh'
Yes we 'could' fall into the same trap of seeking to attribute blame.
Yes we 'could'initiate a witch hunt and seek to bring the true masterminds to justice.
But have we (and by we I mean we humans) not seen enough bloodshed & suffering?
Is it not time to turn our backs upon the false ideas that have set us down this path?

Do you really want to end terrorism? Lets stop being terrified.
What does a courageous decision look like?
Is it brandishing an automatic weapon in nations far from one's borders?
Or is it choosing to be true to oneself while affording consideration to others?
Holding a stiff upper lip in spite of adversity. In spite of the narrative one has been fed.

Opening up to friends and strangers alike is where the courage truly is.
To resist the often ill-justified governmental undercurrents that seek to undermine one's rights.
Being the freedom and life loving human being that one was always meant to be. To walk in the light of day and to share one's light with others - a gift unto them - a strand of good faith - of hope for a better tomorrow, today.
To respect oneself enough not to allow the self to be cowed by those who profit from one being afraid. From standing up to one who would harm us and see a misguided soul capable of better were fate only to breath such possibility into his or her heart.
To reach out - to look beyond - to seek understanding - to be.
