2017 Has Been A Milestone For Crypto Assets

Hunter Horsely, the CEO of Bitwise Asset Management wrote on Coindesk that 2017 is indeed a watershed year for crypto assets.

The overall market capitalization of cryptocurrencies has sky rocketed from $15 billion in January to $600 billion by the end of year 2017.

2017 was the year where cryptocurrencies are attracting more and more new market participants, retail and institutional alike.

However, he said that cryptocurrencies are still in their early, immature and evolving stage of their existence and 2017 is a milestone as they officially became a new mainstream asset class.


Initial Coin Offerings (ICO) Has Raised $5 Billion in 2017

2017 has been indeed a record-breaking year for Initial Coin Offerings or ICOs.

There is a total of 706 launched Initial coin offerings which have collectively garnered a total of $5 billion in fund raising which surged almost 40-fold in just one year.

ICOs have enabled blockchain startups to crowdfund their projects through blockchain by issuing new digital tokens.

Also, many crypto investors prefer to invest in ICOs to protect themselves for price volatility.

More offerings are expected next year. According to ICObench lisitng, there is already almost 200 ICOs are scheduled to be launched in 2018.
