JPMorgan Seeking Interbank Blockchain-Powered Patent

According to a publication by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office JPMorgan filed an patent application last October for a system that uses distributed ledger technology as a way to facilitate and reconcile financial interbank transaction.

This Blockchain-powered system will be a unique system for recording transactions and storing data.

Using this new system banks will enable banks to make transaction between banks faster and more cost effective as legacy systems requires several communications between banks and clearing houses before reaching its destination.

Cardano To Introduce Blockchain Tech In Agritech

The government of Ethiopia and cryptocurrency Cardano (ADA) signed a memorandum of understanding in which Ethiopian developers will use the Blockchain of ADA for the country’s Agri-tech industry.

The start of the project has not been released during press time and there are no binding obligations for this type of agreement.

ADA is currently one of the top cryptocurrency in the world in terms of market capitalization at $9.4 bln and trading at around $0.36 at the time of this writing.

Signs Of Life For California City’s Blockchain Token: Microbond

The City council of Berkeley has unanimously voted to approve the issuance of a Blockchain-powered municipal bond which is called the Microbond.

Although it has to go through a whole lot more process before it can be implemented this action is definitely a step forward.

Ben Bartlett, the city vice mayor spearheaded the initiative, which initially was met with considerable opposition. However one the City council members were told of its merits and what it seeks to provide the majority turned to its favor.

This will enable the city to issue low-denomination bonds and increase transparency through the use of distributed ledger.

New ASIC Miner From Bitmain Can Mine Zcash

Bitmain has announced an Equihash application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) that would be able to mine Equihash algorithm coins which are used by the privacy-oriented cryptocurrency Zcash.

Bitmains Antminer Z9 mini will be shipped beginning of June, exactly one month after the release of its Ethereum-focused ASIC.

To avoid hoarding Bitmain said that it will be limiting one miner per user.

Some argues that the release of ASIC for certain cryptocurrencies have encourage centralized mining which leads away from one of their core values which is decentralization.

Coinbase Expands To Chicago And Will Support Block trades

Coinbase seems be targeting institutional investors and major traders as it plans to setup an office in Chicago and add support for block trading.

Its main objective is to entice hedge funds, trading firms and large investors to use their company for all their cryptocurrency trading activities.

They seek to compete with the likes of Gemini and other OTC Firms that are institutional investor-oriented exchanges.

Only time will tell what impact this will bring this seeming shift of focus from consumer-base trading to institutional trading to Coinbase and the cryptocurrency space in general.

What we can be sure of is that Wall Street is intently looking into cryptocurrency industry lately and for a very long time.
