Vanuatu: First Country to Accept Bitcoin Payment for Citizenship
An island nation in the South Pacific region, Vanuatu is the first government in the world to accept bitcoin payment in exchange for citizenship.
The citizenship program of Vanuatu amounts to US$200,000, more or less 41 BTC at current price.
As a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, Vanuatu's citizenship program grants no visa travel to more than 100 countries mostly in Europe.
All Bitcoin transactions will be processed by a partner Australian exchange and comply with the requirements imposed by Australian Financial Regulator.
Toss: South Korea's Payment App to Add Bitcoin Payments
Toss is a payment app in South Korea that allows users to send and receive money peer-to-peer.
One of its development is adding Bitcoin transactions into its application and they also plan to add real estate transactions.
South Korea has the highest smartphone usage in the world and Toss has received multiple rounds of venture capital including from Paypal.
India uses Blockchain Technology to Stop Fraud in Land Ownership
Andhra Pradesh, a state in India, is currently exploring to use the Blockchain technology for a more transparent land ownership system in partnership with a Sweden-based startup.
With the current corruption in the existing system, which amounts to $700 million worth of paid briberies, the government sees the need of a more transparent and secure system.
The pilot test will be done on a hybrid platform that contains Blockchain and traditional database systems.
Users will use the web application in the front-end and data will be processed on the back-end using the technology.
