There is nothing that gives me a sick feeling in my stomach and tingles down my back like a mouse. Mice are small, harmless, and just looking for food, but I’ve known them as enemies and something to fear from an early age.
In my house as a child, we had mice. I would go to sleep hearing them scamper through the hallway or behind my dresser. Most of our encounters weren’t face-to-face, which made me fear them anymore. They were a distant villain that I feared making contact with.
Even as an adult, I fear mice. I know they are a really silly thing to fear, but I just couldn’t see myself ever being comfortable around them. Whether it’s the Chuck E Cheese mascot, Mickey Mouse, or Splinter from Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles (I know he’s a rat) – no thank you.
If they are locked away in a cage, I don’t think I would mind, but I have no interest in holding one or going within a few feet of a mouse. They can go their own way and I’ll go in mine.
What do you think about mice? I need to go have a cup of tea and forget that they exist for a little while.
