Culture Vulture

The tag #culturevulture is a place where, here on Steemit, you can share something unique about your country with the world. Instead of being a tag about travel or tourism this tag is more about sharing experiences.

September

For the third month of this challenge we have seen additional countries added to the featured list. We now have had participants from; Japan, Armenia, Taiwan, Indonesia, Nigeria, Singapore, Hong Kong, India, Philippines, South Africa and Burma, France, Ireland, China, Vietnam, Borneo and more.

If you want to see the complete list of entries have a look at the SteemChallenges site where you can browse all the entries.

CN Translations

September has seen this challenge spread its wings with weekly posts being translated to Chinese and sharing in the rewards and exposure from those posts, an initiative ran by @deanliu and @ygern.

The Culture Vulture Tag

The posts you will find using this tag are not just travel posts, but posts that share cultural experiences. These experiences are the magic that I travel to experience and #culturevulture now brings them here to steemit.

@joythewanderer was the guest judge this month with some special contributions from a regular contributor @boxcarblue.

1st Place 40 SBD

The winning post this month

Congratulations to @liflorence who wrote this month about a trip to Myanmar where she explored some ancient mysterious Buddhist Monuments. This post give a great description of the area and some of the history and culture of the site.

Notable Mentions 5 SBD

The posts in this challenge generally covered several categories; Festivals, Customs, Traditions, Food, Art and Music

Unfortunately there could only be one winner but several posts deserve notable mentions and will each get 5 SBD

Festivals

Every country or region you travel to have different festivals, and national or local celebrations. They may commemorate a significant even in the history of a people or may be a cultural ritual.

Customs

Every country, every region has unique customs. Isn't it so much more fun to stay in local accommodation when you travel. You get to experience local customs instead of the generic 5 Star treatment that some hotels offer.

I had never heard of homestays before this post but @kuenok describes how he visits some indigenous people in Vietnam and the challenges they face with modernisation and progress.

Traditions

Traditions can be passed down from generation to generation and may have a symbolic meaning or cultural significance. Clothes, Dress, Food, local Holidays, Pass-times.

In this post @steemitph asked his team at work to go back to their roots and take pride of their own culture and traditions. They decorated the workplace according to their individual influences.

Food

Food is close to my heart and the types of food we eat, when we eat it, who we eat it with clearly distinguish different peoples. What is that food you long for from home when you travel?

@madlenfox shows us traditional Russian Apple Pie.

Art

Art expresses a people like no other medium. I bet you visit galleries when you travel! Every time I visit a place I like support local artists by buying some work.

@osm0sis gives us a tour through Hong Kong, through her lens, and we see some interesting architecture and influences.

Music

“… Whenever humans come together for any reason, music is there….weddings, funerals, graduation from college, men marching off to war, stadium sporting events, a night on the town, prayer, a romantic dinner, mothers rocking their infants to sleep and college students studying with music as a background….” Daniel Levitin

@vaelriey writes about the indegenous people of borneo and different ethenic groups, languages, religions and of course music.
