I’m giving thanks today that at this point in my day, I get to spend the whole day at home doing what I need to do. I know there are several things I should be doing but I will likely opt to get some writing done.
A new look on my header graphic today. Decided to spruce it up a bit since I’m into my second month of doing the Steemit Ramble. Hope you like it. The ramble is sort of like a walk in my yard, time to think and process.
Onward to today’s rambling
Does spelling or grammar really matter on Steemit or even affect your earnings?
A new user on Steemit, @mokluc, asks the question: Does spelling or grammar really matter and does it affect our earnings? I’m sharing this so you can weigh in on the question with your ideas.
I know I would likely be viewed by some as old fashioned in this day of schools not putting emphasis on spelling and grammar but I would answer, yes it does. Teachers often brush off poor spelling and grammar as not important, that it is more important to ‘get their ideas out there’.
Well, when the spelling and grammar makes it painful for a person to read those ideas, just how much value do they have? I’m reasonably articulate both in my speech and my writing. I want people to not have to struggle to understand what I’m communicating to them.
There are posts here on Steemit that may well have some great ideas in but I will move on without finishing reading them because they became just too painful. When I don’t finish reading, I don’t upvote. So, yes, that would affect your income. Not from me so much as those with more SP.
VOTE INTEREST POOL - VIP Feature: @contentjunkie
Looks like an interesting concept to bring attention to a featured author. As I understand it, if you upvote the featured author’s post then a portion of the proceeds would be sent to you in addition to the curation rewards. The goal is to attract whale upvotes and then share the proceeds out to those who vote.
Psychedelic Pictures with Deep Dream Algorithm [Original Artwork]
I don’t do a lot of playing around with graphic filters but I do like what they can produce. @andrew0 demonstrates what Google Deep Dream does with pictures. Quite the effect.
#1 Golos Weekly Report Oct. 09, 2016: Network Launch, Crowdsale Delay, and How Golos Will Differ from Steem
I’ve seen a lot of talk about GOLOS which will be the Russian version of Steemit. I learned in the comments of this post that GOLOS is Russian for “Voice”. Some of the comments I’ve seen is people feeling that the Russian hardfork of Steem will hurt the community.
We’ll have to see how this shakes out but my sense is that it will be of benefit. Anyone who doesn’t know English on Steemit is at a disadvantage. If English is your second language and you’re not fluent, then it’s a struggle to post effectively on Steemit.
Being able to post in the language you are most comfortable gives a person equal footing when it is on a network built for their language. I think GOLOS will be the start of a trend. For those who are multilingual, it gives them multiple platforms to post on. For those who aren’t, it will provide them with a platform they can work with.
A few nice shots from walk in the forest
Fall can be a great time to walk in the woods. There aren’t as many bugs around to irritate us and the changing from one season to another is always fascinating to look at. @xcepta shares shots from his phone that was taken during a walk yesterday.
Cold Brew Coffee on the Cheap
I’ve never tried cold brew coffee. Always enjoy the fresh hot coffee, especially on a cold morning. From what I hear, cold brew has a following so it was interesting to see that I could make it right at home with what I have readily available.
Samurai
Interesting post by @yanik showing different stages of his Samurai sketch. Some very detailed work there.
The ultimate Steem book (I’m writing a book and I'll publish it chapter by chapter on Steem)
@teamsteem returns after an absence to talk about what he’s been up to and the book he’s going to write and publish chapter by chapter on Steemit. He also talks about money creation and bitcoin. An interesting post to read.
Choosing My Voice
@perspective writes a brutally honest piece about what it is to speak out as a survivor of abuse. The first act of courage is to speak up and name the abuse and the abuser(s). The second and more prolonged act is to endure the response of a society that is at first horrified by abuse and then turns on the abused rather than the abuser.
Hell - It is a real place - and sometimes it freezes over!
Oh dear, the number of times I’ve said I wouldn’t do something until “Hell froze over”. Now I learn that not only is there a place called hell, it can freeze over. @fyrstikken shares some photos of Hell, Norway. I love the sign on the train station.. It’s much funnier than the translation that @fyrstikken provides us in the text. Enjoy.
Wrap-up on Day 32
Interesting day today. It’s mid-afternoon but I’m going to wrap this up for today. Another day of varied topics to read about and share.
I ventured onto Steem Talk today. I had opened it before and closed it but decided to open it and give it another go. Met some nice people on there, will likely hangout there more often when I have the time. I also hang out on Steem Chat. You’ll find me as ShadowsPub where ever I am.
Supporting and Upvoting
Let’s not forget folks. I’m sharing these posts not only because I like them. I’d really like to see them get support and upvoting. I know some of the posts have done okay by the time I post my ramble, but some really could use the support and upvoting.
Subscribing to My Posts
In addition to following me on Steemit, which I really appreciate. If you want to be sure to know about every post, you can subscribe at my other blog. I’ll send you an email when I post.
