Quench your Thirst: Indian Homemade Cool Drinks.

Finally, after some pleasant weather in India, the Sun is showing the brighter side and started Dazzling in Sky. The day temperature in some parts started to reel around 40 degrees Celsius, and further expected to increase in coming month and may touch close to 50 Degree. The dazzling rays from sun warming up everything, be it your body or the earth, or your throat.

Apart from the normal Acne issue and Sun Tan, which many people try to avoid by remaining inside home. Thirst is the main concern, even though we intake a lot of water, still it was not sufficient for the body and for the throat.

People need something energetic smoothie during summer to quench the thirst. Water is not enough for body, and you need something more, what something more you opt for, ??

Coke, Beer, or Fruit drinks or something else?? Many packaged drinks are available in the market. But who want to go out in the scorching heats to get from the market???

Any solution that we or alternative that do not need to go out in Sun…...??

In India, you have the luxury to have everything available in the market. Still, many Indians prefer some fantastic homemade drinks to Quench the Summer Thirst. Though, intense heat still awaiting to hit many parts, let’s take some of the best available drinks that can readilly be made at home with click of your fingers

Lemonade Juice – “Sikanji”

The all famous Lemonade juice, made up of lemon is the most common drinks to make at home. The easiest of all drinks and cheaper too, that even a Kid can make it. Lemon are easily available in every household, one of the most common items Lemonade juice called “Sikanji” in India can be made in salty or sweet taste, depends what and how one wanted to taste. The main ingredients that requires to make “Sikanji” are

  • Lemon
  • Salt / Sugar
  • water
    To make the Lemonade Juice at home, the method is quite simple. Cut the Lemon in two half’s, and squeeze the juice in a jar or a glass, put some normal water and add sugar or salt as per your taste. Stirr the mixture till sugar /salt dissolved properly. Keep the mixture in freeze for cooling or serve it with ice cubes instantly.
    Those who wants salty taste can add some Black pepper or Chat Masala to make a more tingly taste.

Sattu Sharbat / Sattu Drinks

One of the most common High Protein drinks from Eastern India. Sattu made up of roasted Gram floor are available in every household of Eastern India, geographically covering Allahabad, Bihar and Jharkhand. This drink is also being made in Sweet and Salty taste. The ingredients require for a glass of Sattu Drinks:

  • 2 spoon Roasted Gram Flour (Sattu)
  • 1 Glass of water
  • Salt / Black pepper (For Salty taste)
  • Jaggery / Sugar (for Sweet taste)

The method is quite simple and like Lemonade juice. Add the Sattu powder in the glass of water and stir to dilute completely. Add pinch of Salt or spoon of sugar / Jagery as per the taste you want.
You can add few drops of Lemon juice to make it tastier. Else, you can have it as it is.

Lassi / Yogurt Drinks

One of the most traditional and popular drinks found in India subcontinent. The most loved summer drinks of Northern India Geographical covering Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi. The yogurt based drinks is savoury taste of real India. Mostly made in thicker mixture are available in salty and sweet. Mostly flavoured in Sweet taste. Although the Salty are flavoured more in Summer. Added with Cummins Powder. The ingredients for a glass of Lassi needs:

  • A glass of water
  • A cup of fresh Yogurt
  • Salt / Sugar to taste
  • Roasted Cummin Powder
    Cummin powder are used, when lassi are made salty. Else Sweet is the best to have it.
    It has been said that without lassi, Punjab people never complete their food. It is must for everyone and every household.

Jal-Jeera with mint

Jal Jeera, another homemade drink from Indian Kitchen. It is one of the spicy tangy, sour, cooling drinks, mostly famous in the northern India. The name means Water (Jal) and Cummins (Jeera).
The ingredients for the drink are made by grinding the Cummins, salt and black pepper and mixing it with water, to give a tangy taste.
The drink is served chilled with few drops of lemon and garnished mint leaves to make it more tastier.

These are some common Indian drinks that can be quickly be made in Home.

There are many others drink or smoothie available, that can be made at home, be it Aam Panna – made up of raw mangoes, or Coconut water. But to prepare them, or to enjoy them we need to go to market to fetch.

Better stick to the traditional root and use the best drinks with readily available stuffs at home
