I am a work in progress

Groovy School was created as my attempt to promote community, interaction and learning. I sponsor a child with learning disabilities to receive counseling as I wrote about in another post. I also support teachers who tutor North Korean refugees (http://teachnorthkoreanrefugees.org). Groovy school is a work in progress. I will support these charities anyway but it would be great to for a whole inernational community on Steemit to learn together and a local community in Korea.

I have been teaching in Korea for almost twenty years now and understand the classroom and students and parents inside and out. I can see through the cracks where the education system missed. Sometimes I can do something about it but sometimes I am at a loss. The past year I worked together with the social worker in our school to find a solution for some of these kids. Each family has their own story. Last year one boy lived with his middle school sister while their dad was a hired laborer to China. The mom left them a few years ago and no other relatives took care of them. Legally their dad was their guardian bu they were just living by themselves a 12 year old and 16 year old. Another was from a working class family but didn't know what to do when they found their child to be dyslexic. At the time he couldn't read or write his own name. After a year of therapy he is now reading short stories and speaking them in his own words. I don't meet kids like this in the classroom all the time but every year I meet one and want to do something about it.

I came to Korea because I wanted to figure out my life and pay pack my student loans twenty years ago but I realize I was not sent here for me but for others. Although I support myself teaching English to elementary school students there is not a week that passes where I do not stop by the University campus and talk to students there. At first they were intrigued by my big nose but Korea changed a lot and the campus is international. I meet students who grew up in other countries and came to Korea. A few of these students kept in touch and their lives were changed for the better. A few left Korea to other countries bringing good news with them. Their stories are amazing and in time I will share a few.

Groovy School is a work in progress and I am a work in progress. I was seriously thinking of purchasing an SP delegation to support participants in Groovy school who interact and learn something new. Then my friend @d-pend suggested that I go check out @karensuestudios. Out of her generosity she is offering a (3,500 SP) delegation for one month to one of her 3,500 followers. If I had a delegation I would do more than support participants in Groovy school but I would curate areas of enlightenment and engagement. At the end of five months I will give proof that half the dollar amount of SBD is spent on charity by verifying the receipt.

Even without a delegation I will continue to post here about my craft of teaching and the art of learning English as a Second Language.

This song on @dsound is the fruit of playing with jamstudio.com and recording on Audacity. If you listen you can tell the song has a good bass and guitar and drums but need melody and words. This is the foundation. The words and melody are coming soon. My life up to this point was building this foundation. Now I will build this into something great.
Thank you for sharing the love. I want to share a few posts to help you understand what groovy school does and what I have been doing here.
