Who are to be blamed for inequality and injustice, the people who make the laws or the people who follow and enforce them? EcoTrain QOTW
We are living in a hierarchical society, the pyramid structure in which there are people with different capacities and different interest. The top of the Pyramid is where the whole control lies and as we get to the base we have learned to believe that what trickles down from the top needs to be followed..
The decision makers and the ones in power at the top understand that what flows from them is the ultimate and in the best interest, but now it depends on the base whether they want to believe it or not. But even if they don't there are very few times when it will matter to the enforcers.
Largely tolerance has become the general norm of the Society. In this acceptance some believe that they are in no position to challenge or fight against the law makers, or for some it does not matter at all because they are in comfortable position or some just accept the way things are moving.
The Law makers will keep going on with their tricks as to what suits their interest. They will gift wrap the law very beautifully and tactfully and present it, it's only when you get exposed to it you know that there is a bomb waiting to explode. There are very few law makers who would genuinely come with laws and regulations that are in interest of their people but largely it is the other way. I personally believe that the people who follow the law and enforce them if they are not for the good are culpable for inequality and injustice.
There is also one other side to it. There are times when the Law maker enforces some genuinely good law but the way it is executed then messes up, so it is an equal responsibility of the law maker to overlook the execution of the law.
For e.g. few year back in India the Prime Minister went overnight with a demonetization plan for Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes. The intention of the Prime Minister was good but the execution of the whole plan was messed up. There were many poor people who suffered in this law and at the same time there were many goons whose black money was recovered with this law. So it had its own Pros and Cons but then the ones who suffered genuinely it was not the right justice for them.
There are many Laws in India that are passed by the political parties but thankfully there is a judiciary system in India which takes a neutral view and gives the final decision, but the most important thing to get this done is to raise a voice against what does not seem to be right. For e.g. for the LGBT community there were many political and religious leaders who demonized this community and wanted a law to be passed making it illegal in the country but thankfully the Supreme court had a final verdict and passed the law of making it legal, but this was a long fight from the community and it did not happen overnight with comfort.
The people who follow and enforce the laws are more to be blamed then the law makers if the law is not the right one. But then deciding if it's right or not is also a big game, cause what may seem right to one not necessarily be right to the other. By and large it is the majority discomfort that matters at the end of it.
A lot of us have accepted to live in this undesirable state of inequality only with complaining and no action. We have had these discussions in our friends circle many times and I most commonly see people saying but what can we do, we are not in any position to bring in any change. Even to an extent I believe the same. Till the time it personally does not impact one it does not matter. At times even if it does we do not want to take the risk of fighting against the big whales and we give in.
Though we claim to live in democratic societies but the fact is that we are living under Dictators and following what comes from them. We are living with a syndrome of "Might is Right". There is enough in the world for everyone to live happily, there is no need for any fight, but the greed for power is the culprit. We do not need Commanders we need peace makers. Thankfully I see the younger generation being intolerant towards inequality and injustice and raising their voice to make a difference. When more and more people get into this league I am sure it will bring in change in the society and the political systems and the way the laws are made.
