Eating Like An Aussie

Thanks to STEEM!

The world of STEEM is an extraordinary place. If you stick around long enough, you'll notice it's loaded with remarkable people doing remarkable things. I've been around for over two years and I've learned a lot from people around the world. The sense of international community is amazing. The ability to connect with people on the other side of the planet has never been better.

One particular thing I've learned from STEEM, is how to eat like an Australian. Thanks to STEEM, I've been introduced to three different Australian foods (two of which I now love). Here's a rundown:

Crumpets:

Thanks to @mattclarke

The first Australian delicacy that I had the opportunity to try was the Crumpet. Last summer, @mattclarke went on a campaign to introduce folks to Crumpets, by sending them STEEM Dollars to go and buy some. I was lucky enough to receive some SBD, and I went right on the hunt for some Crumpets. I found a pack at Trader Joe's and brought it home to give it a try. They were phenomenal, like a cross between an English Muffin and a Pancake. Now I've been making Bacon, Egg & Cheese Crumpet Sandwiches and enjoying crumpets all of the time.

Vegemite:

Thanks to @dylansmith

Vegemite is a whole different story... because this stuff is absolutely horrendous. Okay, okay I only tried it once, but still, I thought it was really, really terrible. Maybe if I was force fed Vegemite sandwiches every day as a child, perhaps the taste would grow on me, but for now I will stay far away from this salty, brown, yeast extract. I'm still happy I tried it though. If it wasn't for STEEM, I would never know how bad Vegemite was...

Tim Tam Slam:

Thanks to @mattclarke

A couple weeks ago @mattclarke introduced me to an Australian phenomenon called the 'Tim Tam Slam'. Dunking chocolate covered biscuits in coffee and using them as a drinking utensil sounded way too awesome to pass up. I ordered a pack of Tim Tam and did a Tim Tam Slam into a glass of milk. Although milk is not the proper drink to Slam a Tim Tam, it still worked and tasted delicious. Now I'll be doing Tim Tam Slams on the daily.

Thanks to STEEM and a couple of friendly Australian blokes, I have expanded my internal food database. Thank you @mattclarke & @dylansmith! Perhaps this will mark the beginning of a 'Foods of the World' segment by yours truly.

What should I try next?
