I travel the world Part 82: Dom Curry Berlin

There is a couple of things I like to do once I arrive in Germany

Driving the Autobahn with 250 km/h, eating a Currywurst and buying some great Bread. All the things I can't get in Asia...

Many people never heard of Currywurst... Currywurst is a sausage which is cut into small pieces decorated with some curry powder and than ketchup (or special curry ketchup) is added. Since as long as i can remember there is a fight between Dortmund and Berlin claiming to have invented the Currywurst.

The invention of currywurst is attributed to Herta Heuwer in Berlin in 1949, after she obtained ketchup (or possibly Worcestershire sauce) and curry powder from British soldiers in Germany.[2][3]  She mixed these ingredients with other spices and poured it over  grilled pork sausage. Heuwer started selling the cheap but filling snack  at a street stand in the Charlottenburg  district of Berlin, where it became popular with construction workers  rebuilding the devastated city. She patented her sauce under the name  "Chillup" in 1951.[3] At its height the stand was selling 10,000 servings per week.[4] She later opened a small restaurant which operated until 1974.  SOURCE

This is a luxury currywurst...

Dom Curry is next to the Berlin Dom (an expensive location)

We ordered 2 Currywurst with fries and sweat potato fries

It is called "Pommes Rot/Weiss" if you want Ketchup and Mayo

It is certainly super unhealthy but very tasty (14,50 Euro for everything)

If you never had one visit Berlin and try one of these places:

  • Witty's
  • Curry 36
  • Dom Curry
  • Konnopke's Imbiss

Never underestimate Germany: Football, Cars and Currywurst are worldclass!!!
