"That's Not Beet, It's Berries... Honest!!!" - Disguising Veggies to Nourish Your Family!

Usually I'm all for truth and honesty, but for the sake of health is it ok to trick your family every now and then?  Hmmmm.

It can be pretty difficult to persuade some kids (or some adults for that matter) to eat certain vegetables.  They might love sweetcorn but hate peas.  So how do you get peas into them?  Mash them up with the spuds and make exciting 'green mashed potato'!

Of course we want our families to eat a wide range of fresh veggies, so a really good way to accomplish this is to make daily smoothies.  Things like beet can be used in soups, sauces and curries... or blended up with other veg and fruit to make a delicious 'summer berries' smoothie!  At least, that's what I said it was and only told the truth after it was drunk.  By that time they could hardly take back their statement of it being delicious!  Little bit of a lie... ooops.  But if it's in the name of health surely I can be forgiven?

Here's the 'Summer Berries' smoothies.... except it doesn't have any berries in it :-)

Finely chopped raw beet and a few raw broccoli florets...

A banana, a clementine, and an apple...

Mango and baby spinach leaves...

Add some water...

Give it a whirl...

Hey presto... a beautiful beet-disguished-as-berries nourishing smoothie!  So fruity no-one would ever guess haha!

You can also water smoothies down to use instead of diluted juice/squash... which is a much healthier alternative than those commercial brands with sugar, sweeteners, preservatives, E-numbers and goodness knows what other rubbish.
