Homemade Is Love: Bistek Tagalog (Filipino Beef Steak) With Potatoes

Hello Steemit 👋

How was your weekend?
I was not feeling well after my hiking last Saturday but the beautiful wild flowers that I brought home made it worthy and yesterday, I cooked one of my favorite filipino dishes which I always crave every time I'm not well. It's my comfort food.

Bistek Tagalog

Bistek is a Filipino style/ version of beaf steak.
Cooking bistek is just easy peasy. Just have all the ingredients add cook with love and you have a deliciously cooked beef steak.

Preparation time: 30 minutes
Cooking time: 40 minutes
Serving: 3-4 persons

Ingredients

IMG_0063.JPG

1/2 lb. beef sirloin, sliced thinly
1 lemon (or 4pcs. of lime), juiced
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 large onion, peeled and sliced into rings
4 cloves of garlic, peeled and minced
1 tablespoon pepper
3 tablespoons cooking oil
1 teaspoon brown sugar
2 medium size potatoes, sliced
Salt to taste

Marinate overnight

In a bowl, marinate the beef in soy sauce, lemon or lime, freshly ground black pepper, garlic and sugar. Cover and refregirate overnight for a tastier and the best bistek (for me) but 30 minutes will do.

Cooking Time

  1. After overnight or 30 minutes of marination, remove the beef from the fridge for room temperature.
  2. Heat the frying pan and add the cooking oil.
  3. Sauté potatoes till golden brown on both side. Remove and set aside.
  4. Using the same pan, add the beef and cook for about 3 to 5 minutes per side or until lightly browned. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  5. Pour remaining marinade to the pan, add 1/2 cup of water and simmer in medium heat for few minutes or till thickens.
  6. Once sauce starts to thicken, add the browned beef, stir and simmer for few minutes.
  7. Add the sautéed potatoes and cover.
  8. Add the onions. Cover and turn off the heat.
