Belgian Jupiler League Week 5 Roundup

A weekly recap with all the latest on team news, player form, injuries, betting angles, ...

KV Kortrijk vs Moeskroen 1-1

Kortrijk
A good start of the season from Kortrijk who seem to be a competitive mid table team that should not get in trouble. At the end of the transfer market they managed to hire Perbet from Club Brugge which should result in more goals. Perbet did not succeed at top clubs AA Gent and Club but has always been e guarantee for goals in smaller teams. Kortrijk will be a while without Lepoint who was important in the midfield.

Moeskroen

They are now in a far higher place than their overall quality. At times in the early season matches they showed to be very vulnerable in defense but actually put up a couple solid performances after. Moeskroen hired rotariu from Club Brugge who won't be allowed to play against them this weekend.

Charleroi vs Zulte-Waregem 3-2

Charleroi
Very good start of the season from Charleroi who coached by Mazzu play a similar style compared to last season. Strong emphasis on defense and breaking out on the counter to win with a close margin. They were the better team in this match but it took some last minute luck to take the win. Betting the under live when they take a 1-0 or 0-1 lead will be a bet that is on my radar and I won't quickly fade them unless they clearly get into a period of decline. There were no big team changes at the end of the transfer window.

Zulte-Waregem

Solid season start also from this team. The over trend still remains and it will be very interesting to see how they handle the European mathes. Also no late team changes for them. De Sart will be suspended in this weekends match. Zulte-Waregem should be able to have a good season and reach a Playoff 1 spot.

Lokeren vs Eupen 3-0

Team
Lokeren started the season horrible, coach Kristensson was fired and old success coach Maes was acquired. His first match was no success but they managed to take 2 wins in a ron against Waasland and Eupen. A trip to Anderlecht now who need points won't be an easy task. They Lost Persoon and Ansah and acquired Michel and Filipovic at the end of the transfer window. Not an easy season ahead for this team.

Eupen

Eupen tends to start matches very defensively but always opens up when time goes by specially when they are behind. I will be looking to exploit this angle in live betting. With Leye they would have extra scoring power in their team. It will be interesting to see how thing play out for this team.

Sint-Truiden vs Waasland 1-0

Sint-Truiden
This match had everything to end up in a draw but Stvv somehow managed to score the 1-0 near the end of the match. I'm not quite sure where I stand on this stvv team. Most likely they will be better at home compared to away.

Waasland

Waasland were the most unlucky team at the start of the season. They were better in each of their matches but only managed to take 5 points. They lost Gano but hire Thelin from Anderlecht. Often these underperforming players from a top team do good when they take a step down. They also got Mmaee from Standard and Tuur Dierckx from Antwerp. It will be interesting to see what they can do and I still see Waasland as a dangerous team with potential for a lot of goals in their matches.

Genk vs Mechelen 1-0

Genk
They are ranked far under their ability right now in 11th place. Their main problem is that they are unreliable. sometimes playing the best football of the entire league while other times being nowhere. Sometimes this happens in the same match so I will mainly be looking to bet them in game with HT or late bets depending on which team shows up. If they manage to get a good run going I will be looking to back them.

Mechelen

Mechelen seems to be a team just lacking a bit of quality. They won't get blown away very often but also won't be able to really dominate an opponent. They are renting striker Ganvoula from Anderlecht. He still has everything to prove.

Club Brugge vs Standard 4-0

Club Brugge
The difference in play quality from Club Brugge who lead the table with 15 on 15 is not that big compared to underperforming top teams Anderlecht / AA Gent / Racing Genk. The main difference was that Club Brugge took the points without playing that good. They don't have to worry about the Europa League so I expect them to take the Cup very serious. They got enforced with clasie late in the transfer window.

Standard

Early on in the season Standard looked to be a better team compared to last season with a lot of grinta. Things right now aren't looking as good. A couple times it showed when the grinta is gone there is not much left in this team. They lost Dossevi, Belfodil and Raman in the transfer window. I would not be surprised to see a lot of drama in this team and a possible coach change. Very difficult match against Genk ahead

AA Gent vs Anderlecht 0-0

AA Gent
They played a good match against Anderlecht who mainly defended. Poor start this season but they should be able to recover even though it's unlikely they will reach their champions level again.

Anderlecht

Coach Weiler seems to be keeping his defensive approach and got criticized for this as it totally goes against the style of Anderlecht. With all the transfer worries and speculations closed and the Champions League ahead they should be able to really increase their level of play. They rented Beric from St-Etienne to possibly solve their scoring issue with Theo still struggling to find his peak form. Dendoncker should be back mentally also. Kums surprisingly was left out of the team selection for the match against Lokeren tonight.

Oostende vs Antwerp 3-4

Oostende
They highly underperformed losing all 5 matches at the start of the season. The quality is budget is there so it should be a matter of time before they start winning matches.

Antwerp

Solid start of the season from the new team. They were putting a lot of focus on defense but their matches got wide open once the defense was broken. I expect more late goals from this team. They acquired some players from Werder Bremen, Benfica and Lissabon late in the transfer window I don't know much about.
