The FCC Votes to repeal Net Neutrality

Yesterday, five FCC representatives voted to eliminate Net Neutrality with an outcome of 3-2 in favor of elimination.

Net Neutrality was the only thing preventing Internet Service Providers from arbitrarily slowing down connection speed based on what you paid them.

Now they can charge you ridiculous amounts of money for separate packages to access services such as emails, streaming, social media and so on. They can also slow down websites of competitor services, or ones they don't want you to visit.

If you are not familiar with this issue, you can read more about it in this article I wrote.

Thank you for destroying the internet, Ajit Pai

From the first minute the new President stepped into the FCC office his mission was to kill internet freedom. The paychecks AT&T and Comcast are paying him for this operation must be enough to pay off his conscience and secure his retirement.

What really grinds my gear thought, is how he celebrates his heinous act. Going against millions of people who fight for freedom, alternative media and unrestricted access to information and rubbing it into our faces.

Do you want to know what corporate greed paired with intense cringe looks like? Then watch his PSA immediately after the vote.

Are we all doomed?

If you are in the US - Yes, pretty much.

There is still little hope left: The Congress is working on a bill that could prevent the FCC from enforcing the elimination of NN. There are other freedom activists groups fighting too. The fate of the US internet is still undecided, but it is damn near a total defeat.

How can I help?

If you are a US resident who cares about what happens to the Internet in your country and doesn't want ISPs deciding what you get to browse, head over to https://www.battleforthenet.com and read up on the available options.

Make your voice be heard. Contact the Congress Representatives for your State and tell them why this issue matters to you. Tell your local governor why you want a free internet. Inform as many people as you can. Don't give up without a fight.

If all fails, lets hope Substratum Network can pull us all out of this mess.
