Day 9: 5 Minute Freewrite - Prompt: After Midnight

This post is for Day 9: 5 Minute Freewrite - Prompt: After Midnight hosted by @mariannewest

Before the night comes to a close, she wanted to write one more time to the governor to plead for his help. She had to let him know that her son was innocent, and that he never meant to do any harm.

He was a good boy, she would say. But they looked at her as if she has some sort of mental infliction; or that she was too blind to see the truth

But the time kept on ticking. And he son was behind bars.

After midnight she crumpled up the paper and threw it in the trash. There was no more hope. No reason to try. It had been a year since she began writing those letters.

A year had gone by, and her son had become thin, and frail. He needed his mother to help him. But she couldn’t help him.

She couldn’t tell him everything would be alright, because she didn’t know if was the truth.

Perhaps, she had been blind to her son’s actions. Perhaps he had acted in malice. Her son would never tell her the truth, because the truth may break her heart.

Ding!

Time's up!

This was fun! Thanks to @snook, for telling me about this!

P.s. It goes against all my writing skills not to edit this post before publishing it :D

Until next time,
