Pictures of a Son
Imagine that you live on the other side of the world from your family.
You are a mother and you live in South East Asia.
But your son lives in the US.
You want to see a picture of him, right?
That wish can be fulfilled if you happen to be on cool social media platforms like Steemit and Tsu before that. It was in the days of Tsu when I met my friend Sharon, also knows as @fitinfun. We both lived in San Diego - but guess what, we never managed to get together in person.
Then, when I joined Steemit, it not only had the feeling of Tsu - it had a hashtag #tsufamily. I clicked and found many old friends who had disappeared when Tsu suddenly shut down.
Sharon was one of them. Before I go on, here is another picture for you, Sharon! :)
We talked -as we all do here on Steemit, and I found out that she is living in Bankok now. but her son is still in San Diego.
Do you know what it feels like to be an ocean and more apart from your family?
I can and it is easy for me. When I was 23, I moved to the US and didn't know a soul. I had fun. But my poor mother worried herself sick. That was before the internet, Skype, Whatsapp, and all the other neat tools to stay in touch. A phone call was $ 5 a minute.
After becoming a mother myself and kids taking off to visit the world (luckily for me, they all came back), I really could relate to what my mom must have felt like. I emphasize with all parents who are far from their children and worry about them.
Even with today's tools of communication, it is not always easy. The internet can be down, phones break, all kinds of things can happen. Then it is nice to have a friend who can go and check on your kid and maybe bring them some goodies.
In this case, I was the friend. Here we are, kissed by the sun.
Showing mom that the transfer worked out.
And a happy smile.
Sharon wanted pictures. So, to finish off the request, a couple more for you, my friend.
Sorry about the shadows - I couldn't really see a thing when I took them with my phone.
Hope you can download them.
Much love to you, my friend!
