OST of the Day #16: Child of Light - Jupiter's Lightning 🌩

Hey Steemit!

OSTs make up the majority of the music I listen to, and they're so underrated I just had to share them! Feel free to listen while reading. 😊

Today I chose a song from a game I've already done before, because the soundtrack from this game is so amazing! It's from Child of Light, and you can check out the previous post here!

To recap, Child of Light is a 2D side-scroller/platformer RPG developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft in April 2014. The game follows a young girl, Aurora, as she travels through the fantasy world of Lemuria.

Child of Light is a stunning game with unbelievably beautiful visuals, interesting battle mechanics and a well-written story. To this day, it is still one of my absolute favourite games of all time and I highly recommend it if you're into RPGs and platformers like me.

Here's a trailer for the game:

And here's the song I chose for today!

The song is called Jupiter's Lightning, and plays in the second half of the game when you get into regular battles with monsters on the field.

Right from the get-go you can already tell that this song is epic. It starts with loud bass drums and cellos, together with supporting cymbals all forming the buildup just in the first 10 seconds of the song. The climax comes shortly after at 0:14, with the brass leading the harmony, and the strings coming in soon after. The pace slows down a little after that during the bridge, with trumpets and violins (which have contrasting tempos), and the constant support from the percussion in the background. The cellos and piano lead into the melody again, which has a slightly rising crescendo, as more instruments join in succession. The violins takeover the bridge, and the brass joins in later to end off the song on a soft high.

This song is practically a polar opposite to the song I did previously (Aurora's Theme), mainly because this is an in-battle song, and a truly spectacular one at that. I always looked forward to these battles just so I could listen to this song. It always gets my adrenaline pumping, and psyches me up to take the enemies down.

The pace of the song fits so well, and there's a stark contrast to the battle song from the first half of the game because players are used to how battles work by now, and Aurora has gotten so much stronger. The song conveys this strength and the power she (and her friends) have developed. Now she's not a scared little girl like she was in the beginning. She's empowered and determined to face everything head-on.

The composer, Coeur de Pirate, did a fantastic job with Child of Light's soundtrack. There's a wide variety between all the different songs, but they match the game completely. Since I really love piano and orchestral music, this OST has become one of my favourites as well.

Here's a piano medley for Child of Light that I also like, if you're interested!

Thanks for reading!
