Xervantes' Picks

Here are some of the games I am really looking forward to. I will tell you what these games are about and the reasons why I am excited for these games.

Hidden Agenda (Supermassive Games)

What's it about
Hidden Agenda is a psychological thriller where you have to hunt down a serial killer with the ominous name "The Trapper".
The gameplay is different from other games in that you have to make choices in game by voting on your phone using PlayLink. Your choices will decide the progress of the game and if characters live or die. You can either play alone or with friends. The players will receive secret information and objectives on their phones, hence the title.

Why you should be excited
Supermassive Games also made the excellent Until Dawn where they really delivered on the choice-and-consequence system. Until Dawn is one game where different choices really lead to a different outcome. The horror and thriller genre is right up their alley so be prepared for some creepy moments.
Supermassive has shown us that they their games are always come with a good storyline and great voice acting.
Last but not least is the PlayLink technology. When I first learned about this technology, the way you control and play games with your phone I thought little of it. But the way Supermassive is implementing this technology is one of the best applications I have seen thus far.
I can't wait to play this game with friends and have suspicion and intrigue flying around.

The bad
Unfortunately this is a Playstation exclusive.

We all know the answer to this one, don't we?

A Way Out (Hazelight Studios)

What it's about
A Way out is a co-op game with an unique perspective. Each of the two character has his own story line. So it's not like other co-op games where things are synchronized. One character can be talking to someone on one side of the prison while the other is trying to sneak something past the prison guards.
Yeah, that's right, your in game characters are in prison and want nothing more to bust out as soon as they can. However to accomplish this, they will have to work together. The game is set in the 70's so expect an "Escape from Alcatraz " vibe with some "Prison break" thrown in for good measure.

Why you should be excited
The man behind this game is Joseph Fares, the Swedish film director who also made the excellent "Brothers: a Tale of Two Sons".
In "Brothers" you controlled two characters with one controller which was already novel but Joseph upped the ante by providing us with unexpected twists and an emotional and inspiring story.
In "A Way Out" two players control two characters independent of each other but who are forced to work together. This is the perfect starting point for Hazelight to surprise and amaze us with their ingenuity.
I can't wait to play this with a friend and see what Joseph and co have up their sleeves.

The Uncertain factor
The success of this game will largely depend on how the split screen antics are executed. The game will always be in split screen mode even when you play with someone online.
