Global Adventure: Admiring The Architecture of St Petersburg From A Different Angle (A Pictorial Story)

The City of St Petersburg was the last stop of my Trans-Mongolia Adventure. This stunning city, founded by Peter the Great is distinctively European due the influence of famous European architects such as Niccolo Michetti, Jean-Baptiste Le Blond, Bartolomeo Carlo Rastrelli and Georg Mattarnovi who were invited to build the city. I considered St Petersburg as one of the most beautiful city in Russia and is comparable to other great capital cities of the world. During my stay at St Petersberg, I took a river cruise and was able to appreciate its amazing architecture as we sailed serenely along the Neva River.

Classical buildings flanked both sides of the river banks.

Although it was a cloudy day, the buildings still look spectacular. The green building on the left is part of the Hermitage Museum.

One of the many bridges spanning the Neva River in St Petersburg.

The cruise also passed under many small bridges as well and passengers need to be seated during the crossing.

The architecture of St Petersburg looked even more spectacular from the river.

The river cruise is a very popular way of exploring St Petersburg, and one can see other cruise boats as well.

The architecture of St Petersburg offered a glimpse of the intriguing past of the Soviet history. For example, the Cathedral of Our Savior-On The-Spilled-Blood was built on the site where Emperor Alexander was assassinated in 1881. The architectural heritage and the rich history of St Petersburg has made this visit one of the highlights of my Trans-Mongolia Adventure.
