A lot of families have Vicks VapoRub in their medicine cabinets, in fact you may have some in your own bathroom. However, most do not use the ointment for anything other than cough suppression or reducing minor muscle aches. But VapoRub can actually be used for so much more, replacing the need to buy several other products!
Before we get into these surprising uses, I should state that NONE of these tricks have been endorsed by Vicks. They wouldn't be responsible for any damage or issues when using their product for anything other than its intended use.
Okay, let's get to some fascinating uses!
Surprising Uses for Vicks VapoRub
1. TREAT NAIL FUNGUS
Having a fungus on your toenails isn’t any fun. To easily fix it, rub the VapoRub onto your affected toenails and let it set for a while. You could do this at night and cover your foot with a sock to prevent it from getting rubbed off.
Do this for several days in a row and you should see the affected toenails turning darker in color. This is good, as it means the VapoRub is working to kill the fungus.
Reapply the VapoRub daily for two weeks to ensure your toenails are free of any lingering bacteria. By the end of those two weeks, your nails should have grown and you can just clip off the dark part of the nail.
2. RELIEVE A HEADACHE
Many people do not know this, but you can totally use Vicks VapoRub is as a headache reliever! Put away the ibuprofen and use this cream instead.
To use Vicks to relieve your headaches, all you have to do is rub a small amount of it on your forehead and temples. You should find that you get relief very quickly!
3. PREVENT INFECTION OF A CUT
It’s bad enough to get a small scrape, paper cut, or splinter, but it’s even worse for the area to get infected! If you don’t have any antibiotic cream on hand, putting a small amount of VapoRub on the cut can help prevent infection and reduce how long it takes to heal!
4. ASSIST WITH PUPPY POTTY TRAINING.
The first few weeks of potty training a dog can be stressful because you’re constantly cleaning up accidents. Luckily one of the many uses for Vicks VapoRub is as a potty training aid!
All you have to do is open the bottle of VapoRub and set it in areas that your pet often has accidents in. They’ll hate the smell, and as a result won’t feel like marking their territory in that smelly area.
Just be careful to place the bottle out of their reach. You don’t want your curious pet choosing to snack on it!
