This is seated forward fold over easy pose.
If it has a name in Sanskrit, I don't know it.
This is a warm up, and you can configure your legs in whatever feels good to you,
be that cross legged, lotus, or whatever.
This is immediate stress relief.
It's Monday; let's start gentle and ease into it.
This pose is soothing; this is nurturing.
This is comfort for the lower back
and a yummy hip stretch
that takes mere seconds to get into.
Forward folds are great for the
digestive, urinary, and reproductive systems
(which can maybe use a little detox after your weekend?),
plus folds are incredible practices for patience.
This is a deep opening for the back body
and a reset button for the nervous system--
like restarting your computer when it freaks out,
this simple little stretch is a quick do-over.
This little pretty is a tasty refreshment,
and you can come into it whenever you need
to melt some tension and stress
and try again.
How to SEATED FORWARD FOLD OVER EASY POSE:
- From seated, get the legs comfy.
- This can be easy pose, with the right foot in the crook of the left knee and the left foot in front of the right knee.
- Or this can be cross legged, which surely you are familiar with.
- Or this can be lotus, where the legs are crossed but the feet are drawn up towards the hips.
- Or this can be log/fire stacking pose, with the right foot resting on top of the left knee, and the left foot under the right knee, shins parallel.
- Celebrate, cuz you about to S-T-R-E-T-C-H!!!
- Inhale and bring length by extending through the crown while rooting through the tailbone. Roll the shoulders up towards the ears then down the back to open and support the chest.
- Exhale, and fold forward from the hip creases.
- Bring the hands where they feel good, maybe it's grasping the legs or feet or walking them out in front of you.
- For a variation, you can walk the hands out to the right, bringing the center of the chest over the right knee, then switch sides.
- Receive the value that presents itself to you.
