In the city of Luoyang, Henan province of China, you will find this beautiful temple called Gualin Temple. When I was in China a few year ago, I stayed in Luoyang for four days, to be able to have enough time to visit some of the many temples spread around city and its vicinity. Luoyang is a big city with something like 6 million inhabitants, so we had to take bus and taxi to get around. We did start our first day in the old center of the city. Luoyang was once the capital of 13 dynasties so it does has a lot of history. On our second and third day we went to the temples. We hired a taxi for a whole day. During these two days we managed to visit three temples and the Longmen Grottoes.

Guanlin Temple was one of them. It's a beautiful, peaceful place. There weren't too many visitors at the same time as we were here, which made it seem more peaceful. The temple is also the burial place of the legendary general Guan Yo, but only his head is burried here. This was the higest honour one could have when it comes to honour.

The temple was built in 1596, but the whole place is well maintained and the buildings looks like being in a good state. The layout is the traditional Chinese style. There are halls, pavilions, like the Hall of God ofWealth.

General Guan was a general in the 2nd century AD during the period of the Three Kingdoms (220 to 265 AD). The story about him, tells that he was exceuted by a king of one of the other kingdoms. The king who did that, put the blame on Cao Cao, who was a king in another kingdom. But Cao Cao knew this was trickery, so he made sure general Guan's head was burried in Luoyang.

Besides a visit here, we also visited the White Horse Temple and the Shaolin temple. Both has significant history and worth a visit. But so is the Longmen Grottoes is worth a visit. These caves are considered one of the most famous in China. Here there are more than 2,300 caves and more than 100,000 statues of various sizes, sitting or standing in the caves. Another amazing highligt of our visit in Luoyang.
