For this week's achievement, I wanted to share with you the second part of an article I wrote a couple of days ago! Since these past months have been crazy for all of us, I thought this might be helpful for someone:

Mindfulness and how it can help us getting overy anxiety - part II

You can find a brief introduction and a very simple exercise here.

Altough it may seem irrelevant to us from time to time, breathing is what keeps us going. Not only it's vital for us to keep on living, but also it can help us relieve our mind and body. Anxiety can take over you in just a couple of minutes and express itself in physical ways, such as dizziness, nausea, shivering and we can go on...

So, how do we get to know our anxiety? This kind of things tend to be uncomfortable (and that's why we try to avoid them), but it's really important for you to have a moment with yourself and be honest. This means no judging your feelings or thoughts, no shaming and being completely open and true to yourself. Of course, it's hard, pretty hard, but it will help you a lot. This is where mindfulness helps us, it makes us see through the stages of an anxiety attack and helps us overcome it in a way that's useful for us.

Listen what your anxiety has to tell you

We often tend to control it and it even makes it worse, so make friends with it. It's vital that you're conscious of what you were triggered by: was it something that surrounded you? was it a past experience? was it something you're worried about for the future?

Once you get to know this, you should ask yourself why it feels so out of proportion. Try to get an insight of these things that are going inside you, it's important that you take care of yourself at this time and act with compassion and kindness. If you saw someone that's suffering, you wouldn't be mean to that person, right? Then, why would you be like that with yourself?

Don't get twisted in your thoughts. This is just supposed to realize what you're feeling anxious about and that's it, once you have your answer, it's time to get back to the present moment. This is where breathing is so important, it helps us break negative patterns, but in this moment you should practise an exercise as the one I proposed here.

We're all going through a lot, so please be kind not only with others but with yourself as well. This kind of things might be useless when tried at first, but as longs as you keep practising them and make them part of your life they will bring you great results. By just doing three breaths in which you feel present and your mind's not wandering somewhere else, you're nourishing your own happiness. Be aware of what you're feeding your mind and be grateful. An unattended mind is not only dangerous, but also if you feed those negative thoughts they become more and more powerful, having consequences such as developing a negative mindset.
