We should thank our professors at NHH and at BI for giving us the opportunities, and for giving us the strength to make analysis and creativity efforts on everything. But at the same time we are in sharp competition, and logistics is about having the governance and the control on the documentation that is external and internal in a company!
So, logistics, what is it all about? Well, the main point is to get satisfaction among the customers, and for doing the job properly and with no delays. And logistics is much about the flow of information that any company has, and therefore there is transportation to get to the company in question, and for giving the products to the customers, and make them as satisfied as possible. And we must do this in accordance with the requirements, otherwise there are complaints about what to do and why, and we will get frustrated telephone calls and emails about what is happening, and what is not happening. So, the vendors, the firm and the customers must cooperate and there should be a co-production of articles and services, and this is to maintain that the customers should get the right goods and service to right time with promised quality and delivery time. So, there has been trouble in the networks sometimes in some business relations in some countries with these things, and the problem is about putting meetings and efforts about what to do and why. And we must do the logistics when we have the time and the energy for that. And there should not be too high prices, and we must work with the marketing strategies as product, place, promotion and prices.
We should move forward and backward in the value chain given by professor Michael E. Porter by Harvard Business School. And we should take care of the environment, the pollution and the climate with getting right things to be done. So, what is the five forces that we also are analyzing at any level in the firms in the private businesses? The forces are vendors, rivalry among existing firms in the industry, customers, entrants and substitutes. And this is a fight in the businesses from day to day, and we should think about where to be and how and why we are as we are.
So, what is really logistics in the firms and in the military? It is about planning, managing and organizing the flow of articles and the flow of information, and we should have enough information, and good enough information, so logistics is both about quality and quantity, and any business school must treat how to take care of the customers, and what we are doing of strategies many places.
Logistics is the overall process of managing how resources are acquired, stored, and transported to their final destination. Logistics is now used widely in the business sector, particularly by companies in the manufacturing sectors, to refer to how resources are handled and moved along the supply chain. In the military, we are transporting food and ammunition, and we are doing that both to the commanders and to the soldiers. In the firms in business life, we are sending the customers the articles that they are requiring or which they want, and we are also given the information that the actors in the business sector really manage and want.
We should give precision in the information, both outside and inside the firms, in such manners that we know what to do and how and why. And the flow of information, must be taken care of, and we should be able and capable of filling out every document with information, and for sending the documents away to the relevant persons that have their responsibility for that.
