This former factory was built in 1822. We found this date above the main entrance. By talking to a local who looked after the place, we were told that it closed down in 1875. Many sugar mills like this one, were build during the time when Mauritius was under British colonial rule. The architectural style is therefore influenced by the British. Mauritius is a volcanic island, so the stones used seems to be the basaltic rocks found all over the island. I have visitid a few orther ruined sugar mills, but this one is one of the best preserved.
