We stayed in a hotel right on the seafront. Here you will find lots of restaurants and shops. The nice thing is that there are big trees on both sides of the pavement, which made it pleasant to walk here in the scorching sun. At the end of the promenade you will find the harbor with lots of sailingships and motorized boats. This is also where you will find the pier where you can take the to Tihany - A peninsula with an interesting church located on top of a hill. From here the view of the lake is awesome.
On an early morning stroll, I saw several local fishermen by the lake. In the late afternoon and at sunset, lots of people would sit here.
Then there is food and wine. There is no shortage of good restaurants, wine bars and wineries to visit. The vineyards are up in the hills so you will have to walk for some distance or take a taxi. Both white, rose and red wine are produced, but the most famous grape is Olazriezling - not to be confused with Riesling. What therefore became a bit exciting in the evenings, preferably before we had dinner, was to taste some of them. The entire promenade was filled with the various producers' small stalls, with the option of also buying food.
A few days here is nice to combine with a few days in Budapest. It only took 2 hours by train. It is an excellent part of Hungary that is worth a visit.
