Here is @khackett

ENJOY!

Q&A

Who are you? Tell us anything and everything you’d like us to know about you!

I’m a mom of 3 year old twins, a boy and a girl. They are rambunctious and wild, but cute as can be, so it’s never boring around here. My hubby, @chackett is my best friend and the world’s best dad. I’m pretty lucky to have family that loves me and a home to call my own. I’m a pretty shy person in real life. I find it easier to be myself when I’m online. I have a hard time engaging with people, but usually do ok if someone else can manage to break the ice first. My favorite “how I made a friend” story goes like this. I was a new employee at a job where I soldered parts onto circuit boards. One of the machine operators, T came over to me at my bench and hovered with her hands on her hips and her lips pursed like she was angry at me. I looked up at her thinking, oh my lord, what did I do to piss her off? She said, “Hey! I saw on your facebook that you like Supernatural. I love that show too!”, with a huge smile breaking out on her face. Instant. Friends. I would never have approached her first, but she became a close and dear friend to me during my time there. I hope to make many more friends here on Steemit, but just remember, sometimes I need a little push. 

What makes your heart smile?

Seeing people caring for one another. We’ve been conditioned as a society for far too long to embrace the “me me me” mentality. We’ve been duped into thinking that there’s not enough for everyone. That it’s us or “them”. So when I see people helping or caring for others it really does make my heart smile.

How did you get onto Steemit?

I saw something that caught my eye on a Facebook group. It was a “know your crypto” cheatsheet that described Steemit as “Reddit with money voting”. I had to know more. Signed up for an account and here I am.

Where do you want to die?

Ideally, in my sleep. Or doing something I love. But I realize I have no control over any of that.

When’s the last time you cried?

This morning. Happy tears though! The beauty of what people are doing here often gets me emotional. But in a good way. I like that.

What’s something you DON’T like about all this new technology?

The fact that people fear it. I cringe whenever I hear someone say that they believe AI will destroy us. SKYNET! AHH!
Seriously, take a look around and watch what we do to each other in the name of religion, politics or war. I guarantee it’s 1000% more horrifying than anything AI could ever do to us. Instead of thinking about how technology is hurting us, we need to recognize the ways in which it helps us. Embrace it. Abundance for all should not sound like a scary idea. It should sound like a logical solution to the current mess we’re in.

What mistake do you keep making and why?

Doubting myself. It’s an easy mistake to make and one I seem destined to repeat until I finally get it. I am good enough.

What’s the best advice you have ever gotten?

When @chackett and I got married, we interviewed a few officiants, but one man stood out to us. I didn’t grow up practicing any religion and only attended church with my friends if I happened to sleep over on a Saturday night. So I didn’t expect the words he said to us to resonate for so many years with me. He said, “Love is a choice. You choose to get up every day and love that person. No matter what. The only way marriage works is if 2 people continue to remember that and choose to love each other every day.” Just. Wow. It was really something I had never considered before. It’s one piece of advice I always pass on to the couples I know.

If there was something you could un-do, what would it be?

The events of 9/6/16. My son was injured in a window blind cord accident in our home. Even though he recovered fully and suffers no lasting effects from the injury, I would still go back and undo it. I wrote a blog post about it if it’s ok to include a link? @khackett/window-blind-cord-safety-simon-s-story
I struggle with ptsd from the incident. Writing about it has given me some closure, but I would go back in a heartbeat and undo it if I could.

Imagine that you magically have the ability to keep being alive without sleep, what would you do with the extra time?

Read. I’ve always been a bookworm. My mom would take me to library every weekend when I was little and I’d check out the max amount of books they’d let me. 10. Sometimes, I’d try to convince my mom to sneak an 11th book for me into her stack to checkout. By the next weekend I’d have read them all. The internet became a “thing” while I was in High School. Instead of reading stack of books at night, I ended up online. Reading chat rooms and message boards and looking at all the different websites. I didn’t interact much, but I loved reading other people’s thoughts and conversations. I’m still drawn more to read online than in real life books. So if I never had to sleep, I’d be online. Reading.

What’s the stupidest thing you’ve done that actually turned out pretty well?

Ehh. Ok, here’s one. Warped Tour 2000. Went all day in the sun with no food water or sunscreen because I was heartbroken over a boy. Ended up laying on the grass with sun poisoning and dehydrated, crying. Next thing I know someone is handing me a bottle of water and helping me to my feet. I remember sitting in the shade propped up against a tour bus for a little while until I started to feel better. I told my friend I wanted to head back to the car and go home and she said, “don’t you want to wait and talk to that guy that helped you? He was pretty cute. I think he’s in a band or something.” (my friend was not a punk rock fan, she was just there to look out for her hot mess friend, me) I was not going back into that venue for anything, but I turned around and briefly caught sight of the man who had helped me. One of the members of the Mighty Mighty Bosstones! Anybody remember them?! I loved their music! Nice guys, they looked out for me that day.

What makes your belly ache with laughter?

My children. They’re 3 and love to try and make mommy laugh. Plus, they’re still learning how to talk, so everyday there’s a new funny phrase to be repeated for laughs. Today’s was poopy pants. Yesterday was doody. (hmm. I’m sensing a theme here. Why is poop so funny?)

Tell us about 1 significant event in your life that really made you who you are.

Packing up my tiny little Dodge Shadow with everything I owned in 2002 and moving to Denver, CO. I had just turned 21. Since graduating high school, so far I had gotten my heart broken into a million pieces, given up on going to the college I had been accepted to and was homeless for a short time. That was very scary. I wasn’t content with just working a barely better than minimum wage pizza job and doing nothing. I saw an ad on TV for an Aircraft Technology School. Hmm. Maybe I could do that? One phone call, 27k in student loans and a month later, I was gone. When I left I was a scared, cynical, selfish and naïve girl. When I arrived in Denver, even though the school was shit and I was lonely as hell, I managed to stick it out. The first 5 weeks were a huge adjustment for me. I had to learn how to drive in real traffic. I had to find a job. I had to get rid of my creepy stalker roommate. (That’s a story for another time) When the next semester started, @chackett was in my class. We hit it off and the rest is history. If I hadn’t taken that chance and moved, I never would have met my other half!

What would be the scariest monster you could imagine?

That Demogorgon from Stranger Things is pretty damn scary. I’m not sure I could imagine anything that tops that.

What does Steemit mean for you?

Steemit to me means (hopefully) some financial stability. As well as a mechanism to affect social and cultural change. There’s an idea called “Resource Based Economy”, invented by Jacque Fresco that I see as being sort of the end goal for humanity. A world where scarcity doesn’t exist and there is abundance for all. When I first learned of this idea, I studied it as much as I could. It seemed obvious this was the answer, but how to get there? The technology needed to accomplish such a society surely doesn’t exist yet. Or does it? When I first heard about Bitcoin I thought, cool! Ecash. When I first heard about Ethereum, my ears perked up way more. Smart contracts are going to be needed in a cashless society. I thought, we’re really doing it. The world computer could be the blockchain! Controlled by the people! Then, when I found Steemit, it suddenly became clear. This is the place where the cultural shift will happen. This is the proving grounds for the next generation of society. And that my friends, means EVERYTHING to me.

What would you like your last meal to be?

Pho. It’s my fave.

If you could change your name, what would you change it to?

I don’t think I’d change my name. I kind of like it.

If you could be an animal for a day, which animal would you be? Why?

That’s a tough one. Maybe a bird. No a cat. Dogs have it good though. Giraffes are so tall, that could be cool. I’d probably want to be a fictional animal like a dragon or a unicorn though. Just because that would be awesome.

Which person inspires you the most and why do they inspire you?

My momma. She never gives up. Doesn’t matter how hard things get for her, she just powers through and gets shit done. She’s still a few years away from retirement and can’t afford to not work. Her arthritis is starting to get bad. It’s mostly in her hands and she types for a living. She just does what she has to and never complains. I on the other hand, will do things I don’t want to, but I’m gonna be vocal as hell about it while I’m doing it. lol

What are you insecure about?

My ability to parent my kids without royally screwing them up along the way. Can I get an amen?

Describe your ideal life.
  1. Freedom from debt
  2. Freedom from capitalism
  3. Autonomous cars that never crash to drive me everywhere
  4. A house that cooks and cleans for our family
  5. The ability to travel anywhere in the world quickly and safely
  6. All of the above for all of the people everywhere.
Have you ever saved someone’s life?

Not directly. No.

What do other people think is weird about you?

My crazy ideas about money not being real and that we don’t need governments to rule us.

What do you think is one of the best things about you?

I try to be open minded and non judgemental. Everyone is a product of the environment in which they were raised. And on top of that, we all live in our own separate realities. What I experience as me, is not the same as you experience as you. Even if we both stand right next to each other and witness the exact same event, we will inevitably have remembered some details differently. You have to respect other people’s realities.

What’s one responsibility you really wish you didn’t have?

Mopping the kitchen floor. I really hate it. Bought a mopping Roomba, doesn’t work. Gah!

If you had a personal flag, what would be on it?

It’d be purple and glittery and probably have stars and galaxies on it. I’m nerdy like that.

If a genie granted you 3 wishes right now, what would you wish for?
  1. Make Resource Based Economy a reality
  2. Good health for all
  3. For time travel to be possible
What do you think about when you’re by yourself?

Too much.

What would you want to be written on your tombstone?

Eh. I’m not sure I want a tombstone. Just launch me into space.

Who is the person you trust most?

My husband, @chackett.

What’s your favourite word?

Kerfuffle

If you had 25 minutes to do anything you wanted without external consequences what would you do?

I would probably want to float in space without a space suit.

Who is your fave (or one of your favourite) Steemians and why?

@lyndsaybowes- She is one of the first people I really clicked with here. Her idea for #ophumanangels was one that I immediately knew I wanted to be a part of. This is a new tag on Steemit that we’re using to promote positivity and random acts of kindness out in the real world. We’re doing things like feeding the homeless, buying coffees for people, and dropping little inspirational notecards around our towns for people to find. The idea is to do a random act of kindness for someone, it can be anonymous or not. You can spend money, or not. Just make someone smile. That’s an idea I can get behind.
@davedickeyyall is my favorite stoner. He’s not your stereotypical stoner, he spends a lot of time helping others. He’s an ophumanangels rockstar!

If you were arrested with no explanation, what would your friends and family assume you had done?

They would probably assume that my mouth got me in trouble somehow. haha

What’s the most ridiculous fact you know?

When a female baby is born, she already has every egg she’ll ever produce in her ovaries. So if you’re a woman, and you had a daughter, you technically carried all your potential grandbabies within you. Ridiculous.

What is your nickname?

Mom. Mommy. Mama. Maamaaaaaaaa!

As a Human Of Steemit, how do you contribute to Steemit?

My favorite way to contribute to Steemit right now is doing #ophumanangels missions.

That’s all I got. Phew. Those questions were thought provoking and interesting. I had fun answering them, thank you @humansofsteemit for dedicating your time to this amazing project. Bravo!

Fun Crazy Steemit Thing
