田植え
ta-ue. "Rice planting." 🍚 🌾
Well, today was a special treat. My family and I headed up to Murakami, Niigata, to participate in the annual rice planting kids event held at a local rice farm in the area. This year was our third time going, and so far for me, the most fun. Plus, fellow Steemian @boxcarblue (who first introduced me to the event) and his family were there, too! Steemians and progeny in the fields, soaking up some sun, and squishing around in the mud. Please enjoy the photos (and video!).
This was the first year my son really got in the field and participated a bit. Last year the mud was "too scary."
@boxcarblue, hard at work!
The kids, washin' up.
The farmers here are really cool, and don't mind the kids playing on the tractors.
RICE POWER!
A 田植え機, ta-ue-ki (Rice planter machine), in action.
After the hand planting was finished, we were whooshed through history into the future, where this neat machine called a taueki can plant individual plants (three to four small green shoots) in pristine rows with extreme neatness, efficiency, and speed! I like to pretend I am one of the hand planters who first saw this machine in action every time. Folks in the past must have been blown away at the advent of this contraption.
Please enjoy this short video of this interesting machine in action.
