We can be so silly

A good friend brought me one of the guitars I built for him a year ago or so. The visit was unannounced, but honestly very opportune. I suspect that the setup that he wants me to do on the guitar is more connected to his desire to find out if I'm doing OK, if I've gotten over the hump sort of speak.

Us boys can be so silly at times, and I mean that in the best of ways. Showing signs of concern, sometimes are construed as signs of weakness, as if a phone call or a visit that is solely done for the sake of saying hi, needs a manly excuse to pass under the radar undetected.

It's not that I don't get it, because I've done it myself so many times. There are a couple of elements at play and its extremely hard to generalize the dynamics, but I'm sure there is a considerable number of people who will relate to my thoughts on the matter.

After all, even after all the advancements in science and the undeniable cultural evolution, we fall back into the simpler understandings. Hierarchy within our social groups has never not been a factor throughout our existence. The concept of alpha, beta, omega of what have you, might be obscure to those who don't bother with sociology, but its effects and our primitive behaviors are still the underpinnings of our social interactions.

I guess that is why I find it silly at times. As someone who observes humanity as both a participant and a self proclaimed alien, I tend to be overly conscious of how primitive we can be, regardless of titles and fancy suits. No doubt emotional connections with other sapiens are at the core of needs, and those who we have chosen to love are part of our own unique recipe for peace.

I'll fix the guitar of course, I'll do the best job I can possibly do. But I know that's not why he visited me, and that actually makes me smile... all silliness aside.
