Well my first reaction to this was but why do we need leaders? Then to put a little more thought to it, I feel may be not everyone needs a leader but some few do. But what type of Leadership then?????
Or then I would rather say we need Mentors more than Leaders.

Leadership in today's time
In today's time and age there are Leaders, Leaders, Leaders everywhere and everyone wants to be in this position. There is always a fight to be in this position be it in offices, universities, religious groups, politics, socially and everywhere. The very best example goes with the political leaders of the world. To what extent do they go to reach to this position is mind boggling. The fake talks and promises they give all gets faded once they get that position so getting such people into power is a sheer waste of energy, money and sentiments.
Leadership has become a competition and a very unhealthy competition. So to think of it are these the right people. For me personally the answer is NO.
Every political, religious, social leader has an agenda of their own. There are very few who would actually think of the betterment but sadly they are not in that much power to make much of difference globally. Though their baby steps do matter a lot. There is a very controlled system, what looks on the outside is not the real picture. For e.g. we think the political leaders are the culprits but then most of them are puppets functioning on the command of the bigger tycoons.

What is Leadership for me
When I think of Leadership then more than a person in a Leadership position I would think of the agenda that needs to be taken care of and who can make a difference, then that can be one person or a group of people who can think beyond the I for the betterment of the cause. Trust, credibility, collaborative environment is something that is the need of the hour to tackle the burning issues like Terrorism, Poverty, Literacy and so much more.

Who should Lead our World
I do not have problems with Leadership. Rather it would be good to have a Leader whose presence is felt more from the heart than the head and it springs from the leader’s courage of their convictions and when they walk the talk and lead by example. But the problem is this position is completely exploited Leadership in today's time means power. Power to do anything at personal discretion or under pressure. When the personal agendas are set behind or when the person who can make a difference stands up only for the right things to do can an effective Leadership happen.
The expectation is too high from where we are now, but the hope can always be there and the efforts to work towards it should be ongoing. The generations to come will surely understand the importance of democracy, freedom and a better society to live in and gradually with every realization things will change.
