A Day in the Life of My Puppies #2 | The Two Types of Labradors | MyPictureDay #6 submission

Happy Wednesday guys!

My babies turned three months old last week and they’re huge!

Finn (top) and Dakota (bottom) came home with me when they were seven weeks old on June 13th, and they're already this big!

So much can change in such a short time with puppies because they’re growing so fast, and their temperaments are constantly adapting to their physical changes and their environment.

Puppies have a lot of energy, I can’t emphasize that enough. And labradors in particular cannot be cooped up in the house all day. So first thing in the morning they’re desperate to go outside and could just run around for hours.

Here they are on our morning walk

I always take them out first thing in the morning, sometimes as early as 6am. Then I feed them and bring them inside for a bit. Then a few hours later it’s right back outside to burn off more of that energy.

I’ve been going for runs and long walks with them frequently throughout the day. This also ensures that they burn a lot of their energy and can have a good night sleep in the house. And this way they will actually sleep through the night with you.

Here's Finn on our evening walk

The two types of labradors

That being said there are two distinct types of labs, one that is said to be better suitable to living in a home, and other’s that are better suited to hunting and working outside, exerting a lot of energy.

The two types are English Labs, or show labs, which have been bread for many generations as show dogs. And there are American labs, a.k.a. field labs, which have been bread for many years to be working or hunting dogs.

The names “American” and “British” here are misnomers, because these two types of labs exist all over North America and the U.K., and have nothing to do (anymore) with being British or American.

At my kennel, I have a mix of show labs and field labs. Finn and Dakota are field labs.

And just a video of a day in the life of Finn

Unfortunately, I was only able to get footage of Finn for the most part because every time I put the camera in front of Dakota she would run up to me and start kissing my face. Not exactly opportune for photos and videos, but still so darn cute.

To end off the day we witnessed this beautiful country sunset

And a big smile from Finn!
