Welcome to a new episode of SteemDance!
I recently blogged about basic steps and how to start dancing in general. While reading those lovely comments under my post, I realized that there are two different kind of styles when it comes to start dancing. You always have a Gentlemen side and a Ladies side, right? People were asking about some advices for men so I thought to make a post about men versions and girly versions. Obviously I´m a woman so it will may look still "girly, sexy" but I tried my best to be authentic since I also love to dance like a gangster.
I often talk about confidence because thats the best Accessoire a dancer can wear. (Humans in general) If you haven´t seen my posts about confidence yet, just click here for Part I & Part II.
Anyway, its okay to be shy and being afraid of dancing in front of many people. I still don´t recommend alcohol because it makes you do things you wouldn´t do naturally. To dance means to be free. To impress yourself and to be whoever you want to be!
As I mentioned in my last SteemDance post, all the names that I write above the steps aren´t official names. I´m sure that some of them have professional names and meanings but I created the most matching ones.
*I really recommend to wait a few seconds until all gif´s are fully loaded. You need to see the gif´s before trying it out on yourself*
Shoulders
This is such an easy move but really help you looking cool. Lift your shouldern matching to the beat of the song. I´ll promise you, everyone is going to think you´re dancer.
Cool Slide
The cool slide contains a little freestyle which makes it so special. You have something like a normal step to the side but slide the other foot towards the one you stepped with. When you have arrived at the side, bend one knee after another and pose two times how you would like it. Same routine to the other side.
Smooth Jump
The smooth jump is definitely nothing for shy people. You jump from side to side with both legs scapular wide open and push your hips forward every time you reach the ground. Hands are totally free.
The Turn
If anyone noticed, I always do turn in my choreographies. It looks really special even if it´s not. It looks sometimes too lady like thats why I chose this turn instead of a popular one. Your steps are - right - left - right - left tap and same for the other side - left - right - left - right tap. If you have arrived and your head is looking to the front, push your shoulders to the front with something similar like a "pop".
Relaxed Jump
The relaxed jump is nothing fancy but it will bring a little bit of freshness into your dance. Just step to the side while making a semicircle and when your upper body arrives in the middle where you started, do a little jump with both legs.
Slide To The Back
Of course a dancer needs footwork! You just step with the right foot to the right side and slide with the left foot behind the right one. Same with the other side ! And again, feel free to do some moves with your arms but please be gentle because the focus should be on the foot work!
Moonwalk
I´m definitely not a pro in performing this step! I tried my best and hopefully some of you recognize this step. The moonwalk is a cult move and isn´t that complicated as it looks. Just have the weight on one leg and lift the heel. Slide with the other foot to the back and the same for the other side. Go backwards and move your hands if you want to.
Always make sure to bend you knees into a plié and relax your shoulders. Hip Hop is not rigidly like ballet. You need to find the balance between strength and a loose body posture.
But the most, Most, MOST important thing of a dancer is rhythm. There are always different beats to a song and I recommend to listen to that upcoming song for at least 10-15 seconds before moving. You can catch the simple beats such as "base & kha" . ( It´s just like that: boom, kha - boom, boom, kha ) and try the more difficult sounds when you feel comfortable. It´s so embarrassing to dance to a beat that doesn´t exist...
Here are some funny moments. I like to play around while shooting and I wanted to try out some cool male poses. That´s the result... lol
Quote of the day
Rhythm is something you either have or don't have, but when you have it, you have it all over. - Elvis Presley
