Minnow University: Class is now in session. Let's chat about time and effort.

Minnow University live on air recap.

Just in case you forgot, class time has changed from Tuesday night to Saturday 7:00 pm CST, 8:00 pm EST, or Sunday 1:00 am-2:00 am UTC. This will be the second week the show airs on Saturday. I did not make the show last week, but did you? If you made it, I would love to hear what you took away from the information shared.

I heard there were some AMAZING guest speakers; did you read the show notes post?

The beautiful @isaria made a post show recap called, Minnow University Radio // The Minnow Support Project // Show notes and Audio // MSP-Waves Radio.. If you missed the show, read up on it, and leave a comment. I wish I didn't miss the show, but this new show time does not always work with my schedule. Especially, this past weekend. It was interesting. I explain a bit of how I was recoverying/suriviing that weekend in this post called, Best friends sharing life together. You can read about my adventure there. I missed the show Saturday, and missed chatting with you guys. So, I thought we could have another class. I want to continue our chat from last week; do you remember what we talked about?

Gotta love pop quizzes!

Just kidding, I won't quiz you about last weeks' lesson, but I will ask you to try to remember it. Also, be warned. Although, I won't quiz you this time, quizzes are coming! Until then, let’s try to refresh your memory. During our lesson last week, we chatted about Value Adds. Since then, I was digging in postpromotion when I found this post called, Lessons Learned in My First Month on Steemit | Steemit Beginner's Series Case Study. I was blown away for several reasons.

Let's talk about her FORMATTING!!

Her formatting is flawless! It has everything one can ask for. Proper spacing, numbering when listing, interesting non-stolen pictures, and the post content is very well written. Granted, she is a writer and the experience shows, but we can all learn to improve our craft and that is her general message.

If you have been in any of my classes, curation shows, or seen any of my posts, then you know formatting is everything to me. It is less about the codes that make a post pretty and more about balance.

Proper spacing is just as important as style.

When I say style, I mean the amount of font sizes you use compared to the amount of text to create a balanced visual post. Which reminds me of my graphics teacher in college. She had a rule I often struggled with. She said no more than two fonts or colors per assignment. I loved playing with the font sizes and colors, and as you can imagine, I struggled with this rule very much!

I eventually learned to embrace her rules instead of fight against them. I'm glad I did because it taught me balance. When creating a visual image there can be too much, there can be too little, and there can be just enough. There is a time and place for both extremes, and there is a time and place where there shouldn't be these two extremes. For example, a poetry post isn't and shouldn't be formatted the same as a research post. Don't be that person that centers all their posts. Also, consider the grouping of text with the topic. Research topics generally have larger groups than stories or prose posts.

So, experiment with your post style & let me know if you
need any help or a second look before posting.

I would love to help! As I mentioned before, check out the Minnow University Discord for more helpful posts, suggestions, and helpful links. Lets chat about her content next.

What about her message is so great?!

If you were wondering what is great about her message, I'm glad you are, because it is where several writers fall short. Her writing takes you on a journey. It tells a story and it doesn't start and end with the title. The title gives you a hint of the overall theme, without telling the whole story. How many of you can say your posts, your titles, and your content do all of that?

I'm glad you asked or were wondering. This writer has been on Steemit for a MONTH! Can you believe it? A whole month, while most of us have been here for a few. In the short time she has been on Steemit she has learned to write, format, and develop her content in her post BEFORE posting! She has done what most of us failed to do. To learn before posting, to research before asking, and to present only after completing the first two steps mentioned. Which is to research and learn.

She started her Steemit journey the same as most--confused and overwhelmed. However, she took the time to read posts, to learn formatting, and to write about what she loves. Did you catch that, she learned how to before posting! Do you know what happened next? Did she make millions? Did she make the trending page? Is she on trending page right now? Nope, none of the above; remember she has only been here a month. She did however learn to wait and build her following. Let’s talk about her patience.

Steemit cycle is a journey of increasing one’s patience.

She has seen some success and much stress. She has seen high payouts, she has seen penny payouts. She has been privileged to have a post curied. More importantly, she has found and joined communities for support.

Some of these communities I haven't heard of and some of these I promote in this post called, How Steemit Discord Communities Can Help You // Minnow University // Help for Minnows and New Users. Regardless of what community you decide to join, what communities you decide to start, what communities you decided to lead, ultimately you want to connect with people. We all want to succeed on this platform.

As I mentioned in my post called Value Adds, all it takes is you and time. All it takes is you and effort. All it takes is YOU!! Thank you @ameliabartlett for inspiring this post, for educating this platform, and most importantly, thank you for being the change you want to see.
