Entry number two in my album of the day series is a complete different beast. Drum and bass is what I like to call it. Not to confuse, but that is what it is. Drums. And bass.
Om -Variations on a theme (2005)
Legendary stoners SLEEPs demise was a quick recovery for guitarist Matt Pike. He soon kicked off with his new outfit High on Fire. The rythm section of sleep on the other hand had a more troublesome recovery. OM was the new brainchild of legendary bass player Al Cisernos and Chris Hakius. In my opinion the best that has ever been made under that loosely fits into the stoner genre.
Variations on a Theme sports heavy riffing like heard no place else. It also is a journey towards piece and tranquility. If I had to choose five albums to play the rest of my life, it would most certainly be one of them.
