New Developments In The Open Mic Community On Steemit

Some great developments have come into existence around the Steemit Open Mic contest all designed to help foster the music community on Steemit.

Musicians Getting Paid On Steemit

For starters 22 of the participants in the Open Mic Songwriters Challenge sponsored by @meno received a bonus of about $140 USD each from @krystle. You can read more about that at I Just Gave Away A Bonus 3000 Usd To Our Top 22 Open Mic Songwriters Challenge Entrants --- by @krystle

Open Mic Radio Shows

Did you know that Steemit Open Mic has it's own radio show each Sunday hosted by @isaria on Discord?

You can hear last week's show at Steemit Musicians With Krystle, Isaria, And Shane Our Top 3 Winners 30 Sbd Prize Msp Waves Radio Show Audio Included --- by @isaria

Log in to the show here:

https://discord.gg/NgtASnX

Each week they play the Top 5 Picks from the Open Mic judges and reward some SBD. If you're involved in Open Mic and especially if you're one of the top picks for Open Mic you should go check out the show and jump on for an interview.

Another show on Discord just started by @meno yesterday called Songwriter Shoptalk. If you missed it you can hear it at First Songwriter Shoptalk Show Tomorrow Jan 31St Featuring Soundlegion --- by @meno

@soundlegion is the guest of the first show and it's really good. You can listen to next week's show here:

Open Mic/Steemit Meetups

Another exciting development happening around the world is that Steemit meetup groups are getting together around Open Mic and playing music for the community. A combination of Steemit Meetup/musican jams are gathering together and playing music as a way to onboard people to the Steemit platform and seems to be working really well.

To me this is really exciting because it is in line with the mission statement of Steemit and why I started Open Mic to begin with. Helping musicians get on the Steemit platform, get involved in the community and crypto, and share their music is so inspiring and is what keeps me going.

These groups are springing up in the U.S., Africa, Venezuela, India, and countless other communities around the world. Amazing!

Open Mic Website/App

The idea for an Open Mic website/app is something I'm working towards bringing to fruition. Something like DTube or MultiTube, which are both open source, would work nicely.

If you are a developer and interested in modifying the code on either of those projects to repurpose it for Open Mic have a look at the code on GitHub first and if you are up for the task, contact me.

Here is the code for both:

How To Follow The @openmic Trail

The controversial shutdown of Streemian.com went down this week, suddenly ceasing their service. What this means for Open Mic is entries will experience a temporary reduction in upvotes and rewards.

For those who don't know, I manually go through all the entries and upvote the valid ones. This puts an enormous strain on my voting power which rarely rises above 30%.

@ausbitbank created the @openmic account to give people a way to support Open Mic without having to upvote all of my posts, saving their support for only posts related to Open Mic. By delegating Steem Power to the @openmic account and having it follow and upvote my upvotes on those who enter the contest with a valid entry, it gives a boost to those entering while insuring my voting power doesn't go to zero, which it would with the number of entries I upvote each week.

For people who wanted to support Open Mic but didn't have the Steem Power to delegate to the account, they could follow the votes of the @openmic account using Streemian so they could vote too, adding to the number of votes entries received.

Luckily we have another option that serves the same purpose.

If you would like to upvote Open Mic entries on Steemit automatically you can use SteemAuto.

Just sign up using SteemConnect, search for the openmic trail and add your name to the trail. It's that easy.

By default, your vote will be the same as openmics vote at 10% voting power but its selectable by the user when they choose to follow so you can give a smaller vote if you so choose. Every little bit helps support the musicians on Steemit open Mic.

Conclusion

Steemit offers a way for musicians express their creativity while earn rewards they can turn into cash. It has a profound impact on the lives of many people and it's not an exaggeration to say it's changing lives. It most certainly is and my commitment to growing this community is stronger than ever.
