Playing music with this guy is so fun. I feel so privileged to have had the opportunity to play, sing, write, learn from, and record with him for over half my life.
Lyrics
Well, I'm wandering around this city
But it's not a city to me
I'm one of these melodramatic types
I will whisper your name
In my bed, in the night
And it's cold and it's lonely
And you try to console me but
...this is a battle that I choose
...and I lose.
Well, you know that I love you
But I hate this war
Because things aren't as simple as they were before
And you know that I love you,
But I hate what I've done to you, and to your life
To your family--your One
I'm saying that we can't do this anymore
We can't do this anymore...because I lose.
And it all comes crashing down
And it all fades away
I wish it would all crash down
So it could fade away
...so I can lose.
When your body is in the back seat,
And your soul is in the front,
When your heart is pushing pedals,
And when your brain is in the trunk...
I tell you, it's simple,
It's so simple to forget that with you,
To forget that with you I'll always lose.
In a future post I'll tell perhaps share some more stories about the genesis of this song. We will save that for another day. I hope you enjoyed listening.
