The first photo shows the tower of the old town hall in Toronto, as I remember it. The second one shows it as the image sensor of my camera has seen it. It's the same shot, in between is just about one hour of post-processing with Adobe Lightroom.
Some people think that heavy post-processing turns a photo into a lie. Well, the problem is, a camera has neither emotions nor a brain - two things that we use to create our optical impressions. So post-processing is sometimes just about making a place on a photo look the way you would experience it in reality.
Das erste Foto zeigt den Turm des alten Rathauses von Toronto, so wie ich ihn in Erinnerung habe. Das Zweite zeigt ihn so, wie ihn der Bildsensor meiner Kamera gesehen hat. Es ist die selbe Aufnahme, dazwischen liegt nur ungefähr eine Stunde Nachbearbeitung mit Adobe Lightroom.
Manche Leute meinen, starke Nachbearbeitung macht aus einem Foto eine Lüge. Nun, das Problem ist, eine Kamera hat weder Emotionen, noch ein Gehirn. Doch erst durch diese beiden Dinge entstehen unsere optischen Eindrücke. Oft geht es bei der Nachbearbeitung also nicht darum, ein Foto zu verändern, sondern vielmehr darum, einen Ort auf einem Foto so wirken zu lassen, wie man ihn in der Realität erleben würde.
