Maple Leaves at Rest :: Beautiful Japan #38

How sweet, though lifeless,
yet with life to lie,
And, without dying, O how
sweet to die!

Can death be beautiful? Just look at the fallen autumn leaves to find your answer. Even in death they are gorgeous as they lay there.

I was laying on my belly on the stairs to take this photo, earning me many strange looks from passers-by. "Crazy foreigner," I'm sure they were thinking. As a photographer who isn't afraid to get down and dirty to get a photo, I get that a lot.
