Ah sweet sweet victory. We posted about a chicken we now call Pollo Diablo (as per @modprobe's suggestion) and how it repeatedly thwarted our efforts to recapture it. It was seriously out for weeks...taunting us with its bawks from down the hill as it literally tried to dig its friends out.
This one wasn't quite like the domesticated one's we've caught since and it learned our tactics for trying to catch us, opting to jump back into the jungle.
John considered everything from killing it to unique capturing methods. Eventually, he moved the rest of the chickens in the enclosure to another part of the property. He turned the enclosure into a trap of sorts and waited. It literally took days until one morning when he noticed Pollo Diablo in the enclosure. We plugged the hole and these pictures were taken a few hours later.
Remember that terrace I posted about earlier? Pollo Diablo was inside it all day, screeching mad. It was audible from the house and seriously satisfying. John had a smile on his face the whole day despite the fact that he was doing manual labor in hot weather building that terrace.
It still spends the waking hours yelling, almost like it's saying "Fuck you guys!" and we can't help but laugh. We've regained a laying hen as we found an egg in there this morning, although it's several weeks outside have made it somewhat calcium deficient as the shell was extremely thin.
Victory! What we thought was lost to the jungle was not!
