Positive Reflections: The Day That I Walked On Hot Coals

After my graduation and when I started working more than 30 years ago, I decided that I would only read non-fiction books due to my limited time. The majority of the books that I read were either on personal development or on personal finance/investment. That was when I discovered Anthony Robbins who wrote books such as “Unlimited Power” and “Awaken The Giant Within”. I graduated from reading Tony’s books to buying his CDs and the two titles which I bought were “Personal Power” and “Live With Passion”.

So in 2001 when I found out that Tony would hold his “Unleash The Power Within” seminar in Singapore, I flew over from Kuching to Singapore just to attend this seminar. After taking into consideration the seminar fees, air tickets, hotel accommodation and food, it was not cheap. However upon hindsight, it was a very worthwhile investment.

The atmosphere at the Singapore Expo, the venue of the seminar was electrifying with over 3,000 enthusiastic participants. I knew that the seminar would involve a fire walk and I had expected the event to take place on the third day which was the last day of the seminar. To my utter surprise, the fire walk was held on the first night of the seminar.

I had forgotten the precise instructions that Tony gave us before I walked on the hot coals. I had to position my body in such a way that I felt unstoppable and totally confident, and as I was I walked on the hot coals I lifted my right hand in the air, I shouted as loud as possible “Yes, Yes, Yes”. So what I did I learnt from this fire walk experience? I learnt that my physiology can affect and determined my feelings. So whenever I felt disappointed, unmotivated or overwhelmed, and I wanted to change my feelings to being confident and top of the world, I just had to change my physiology. Through the years, this skill has served me well. Where I am today in terms of my career and my financial position can partially be attributed to this skill.
