Orcam My Eye 2.0

Technology is fascinating. Even the visually impaired can move around with clarity using this fascinating device to read text and recognizes faces that would have been impossible because of living in blindness.

What I like about this Product

  • My Eye 2.0 is incredibly small and light weight, with the size of a finger in length.

  • There is a magnetic clip that you can attach to the side of your eye glasses.

  • The finger sized gadget includes 3 things: a camera, a speaker and a battery power that connects to the Internet or smartphone.

  • With this device, the visually impaired person can start reading text and recognize faces, things that our eyes do everyday that we take for granted.

How does it work?

  • When the My Eye 2.0 is turned on, the person can point to any reading material; the device would simply speak the words aloud of what is written there. This works marvelous on any kind of reading material such as newspapers, magazines, and even computer screens.

  • The device actually picks up the places where your finger points to and uses the camera to take a picture of the text. From there the speaker starts reading the text to the person.

  • The device is also equipped with AI tools to recognize faces, products and money in real time.

  • If you get a person to stand in front of the visually impaired person with the device turned on, My Eye 2.0 can pick up the facial recognition of the person and identifies it as a man, a woman or child. Once it recognizes the features of a person more, it will put it into memory into the gadget so that the next time when the person stands in front of the person, the device identifies this facial feature right away. The blind person can knows right away who is approaching him/her and can name the person and start talking to him/her.

  • The information of family members, friends, colleagues can be stored into the device, as many as about 100 faces. This allows the blind person to go out interacting socially in parties or gatherings.

I have taken the time to let you see how this works in the following 2 videos:

Watch Video 1: Orcam My Eye 2.0 for Text Reading

Watch V ideo 2: Orcam My Eye 2.0 for Face Recognition

Neat huh? You can get them for your visually impaired friend here

Price: US $4,500

I think My eye 2.0 is worth the price as in exchange, the visually impaired can live independently with safety and mingle socially with people as the device can capture 100 faces.
