True friendship takes time to cultivate and develop. It doesn’t just happen overnight. Friendship develops when acquaintances discover mutual interests, likes and dislikes. True friendship develops when friends feel comfortable with each other enough to trust and confide in each other. True friendship is also understanding and acceptance. We understand what the friend is about, his/her positives and negatives and we accept them for who they are – warts and all. No one is perfect and if we were to wait for the perfect guy to come along and be our friend, we will wait forever, we will be friendless.
Friendship, like relationship can sometimes go terribly wrong. When that happens, we can get hurt and real bad too. But that’s life. We have to learn the lesson and move on. Unfortunately, friendship can be really tested only in bad times. And I am sure, we would rather not have to do that. So, until then, we just have to trust our feelings and judgment that the friends we have are true and genuine, and that they have our best interests at heart, just like we have theirs.
