Plastic Patch Bigger Than Mexico Just Discovered in the Pacific—Humans Now Eating Plastic in Their Salt

Posted on August 6, 2017      ‘In January 2016 we reported on a scientific analysis finding that by  2050, there will be more plastic in the oceans than fish. Right now,  one garbage truck of plastic is being dumped into the ocean every  minute. This disturbing reality is underscored by the recent discovery of  another giant patch of plastic—bigger than Mexico—floating in the South  Pacific Sea. It was discovered by Captain Charles Moore, who found the  North Pacific Garbage Patch in 1997. A team of scientists has confirmed the existence of another ocean  garbage patch, this time in a remote area of the South Pacific. Unlike  the famous patch in the northern Pacific Ocean, which has long been one  of the world’s most recognizable symbols of pollution, the new patch is  in an area that had previously been largely unstudied.’ http://www.naturalblaze.com/2017/08/plastic-patch-bigger-mexico-just-discovered-pacific-humans-now-eating-plastic-salt.html

Death By Plastic: The Toxic Truth About The Chemicals We Eat & Drink

Bisphenol A (BPA) is the most notorious and one of the  highest volume plastic chemicals produced globally. BPA works to make  plastic more durable & flexible. In your body, BPA mimics hormones  so they disrupt the natural hormonal balance in your body. Exposure is  so mainstream, that detectable levels of BPA have been found in the  urine of 95% of the US population (Vandenberg et al. 2007).  Scientists have found that even tiny amounts may cause damage. In  combination with its prevalence in our food supply, BPA may be a more  grievous issue than anticipated, especially for babies, children &  pregnant mothers.

Millions of tons of trash dumped into world's oceans

Feb 2015: The oceans absorbed 4.8 million to 12.7 million metric tons of plastic  trash in 2010, with China leading the list of contributors, according to  a first-ever report card on plastic waste published Friday in the  journal Science. illions of tons of plastic trash flow into the world’s  oceans each year, and a new study finds that most of it comes from China  and developing economies in Asia. The study,  published in Friday’s edition of the journal Science, estimates that  China's heavily coastal population contributes 1.3 million to 3.5  million metric tons of plastic to the world's oceans each year, largely  due to mismanaged waste.

Eight  of the top 10 contributors were in Asia, including Indonesia, the  Philippines, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia and Bangladesh,  according to the study, which estimated that 4.8 million to 12.7 million  metric tons of plastic wound up in the world's oceans in 2010.“Our  low-end estimate is equivalent to the amount of tuna fished from the  ocean in a single year,” said oceanographer Kara Lavender Law of the Sea  Education Assn. in Woods Hole, Mass., the study’s senior author. “We  are taking out tuna and putting in plastic.”  (more at the link)

The Oceans Are Drowning In Plastic -- And No One's Is Paying Attention

Imagine  an area 34 times the size of Manhattan. Now imagine it covered  ankle-deep in plastic waste — piles of soda bottles and plastic bags,  takeout containers by the mile, drinking straws as far as the eye can  see. That’s a total of about 19 billion pounds  of garbage. And according to one of the best estimates available,  that’s how much plastic waste ends up in our oceans every year.  “We’re  being overwhelmed by our waste,” said Jenna Jambeck, an environmental  engineer who led the 2015 study that determined this staggering number.  According to Jambeck’s research, this figure is on track to double by 2025 unless something is done, swiftly and at a global scale, to stem the tide of garbage. EARTHCUSTODIANS COMMENT: A 1ton+ bluefin tuna is worth $10-15K.... hello!!! Wondering how many are going into debts (to buy fishing arsenal) for this?   Up to 40 km long fishing nets also catching fish that is not targeted,  The industrial fishing waste or bycatch is beyond belief. Many  documentaries about the problem use the latter to mention global warming  but the educated mind can see clearly what is going on, and that  "bottom trawling", the most harmful fishing technique damaging ocean  beds, has nothing to do with climate change.

Appetite for Destruction: Eating Bluefin Tuna Into Extinction

EARTHCUSTODIANS COMMENT:  New Study Says 100 Million Sharks Killed Annually  ... for their fins  mainly... yep, the sky is the limit!! And guess what: female sharks dont  reproduce before 10 years of age or more and the pregnancy is as long  as that of dolphins... at this space sharks will just become another  endangered species. On a more positive note we may assume that the rest  of the shark is sold as "tuna fish for cats" . In another lecture that I am watching the guy says that climate change  is often pointed as a culprit endangering coral reefs but as a matter of  fact it is overfishing around and inside the reefs that is the real  cause.

The Alaska Pollock has been said to be “the largest remaining source of  palatable fish in the world.  More than 3 million tons of Alaska Pollock  are caught each year in the North Pacific from Alaska to northern  Japan. Alaska Pollock catches from U.S. fisheries have been quite  consistent at about 1.5 million tons a year, almost all of it from the  Bering Sea. Information on the current stock status for Alaska ground  fish is updated annually whereas the specific 2007 Pollock assessment is  also available. The Alaska Pollock landings are the largest of any  single fish species in the U.S. However, in each of the last three  years, the pollock population has declined; in 2008, it fell 38 percent  and scientists now believe that the 2008 Pollock catch will be the  lowest in 30 years.

EARTHCUSTODIANS' SOLUTION: eat meat/fish twice a week, we do not need more anyway, it is  all about education... have a *balanced* diet. But as long as "market  forces" dominate, nothing can be done. Just like the drug war, meat and  fish are pushed down our throats, so the industry can profit as if there  are no tomorrows. Unlike animals, man must learn to eat with his  mind...  Additionally many fish breed around the shore lines, but industrial  fishing in deep see is an obstacle as we can guess, not to mention that  it harms local fishermen. The big problem is that many docs tackle "sustainable fishing" but it is  all about SELF-control at the consumer level. Asking for more  regulations is bunk

Overfishing Documentary - Where Are All Our Fish? - Documentary Channel

EARTHCUSTODIANS COMMENT: It is the regulations stupid: fishing boats cannot keep the fish for  which they have no quota, and since the waste is huuuuge, it is all  going back into the ocean DEAD. And if it is the targeted species, it  must have a certain size (too small too young) or it gets wasted too.  Then we have the fisheries discarding (dead) fish that is not big  enough, hence not lucrative  ... overfishing... discarding...  overfishing... discarding... until there is no fish left? And then we have the scientists asserting that the quotas and their  studies aren't matching. Fishing lobbies will do everything to overturn  any study suggesting that quotas must be lowered down. Interesting doc highlighting absurd policies... and follows big  money.... another too big to fail scheme. Only a drastic action at the  consumer level will work. And this is largely caused by technology and  the profit making mentality,

Data Reveals Farmed Salmon To Be One Of The Most Toxic Foods In The World

Posted on July 3, 2017 Aquaculture is often celebrated as a sustainable solution to  overfishing, but in reality, farmed salmon may be one of the most toxic  foods in the world. As a result of overcrowding, disease, pollution and  low-quality fishmeal, the resulting salmon meat is often contaminated  and can lack the valuable nutrients of wild-caught salmon. Worldwide, due to growing awareness of the environmental and health  impacts of red meat, people have begun to favour white meat and fish. As  a result, the aquaculture industry is suffering from the growing pains  of high demand, and subsequently has been accused of procedures  seriously compromising fishmeat quality.

One of the biggest threats facing fisheries today is the alarming  epidemic of parasitic sea lice. Lice attach to fish and drain their  blood. Just a few lice are capable of killing a full grown salmon, and  unless the carcass is removed, it will decompose and subsequently  contaminate live fish. Often, sea lice propagated in crowded, open-net  fisheries spread to infect and kill wild salmon.’ ..................

The Global Alliance Against Industrial Aquaculture, reported the major  fish producing countries Scotland, Canada, Chile, New Zealand and  Australia are killing thousands of seals in order to produce fishmeal.  Analyses from Scotland revealed “significant welfare concerns”,  including that one-third of the seals studied sent to slaughter were  pregnant. The U.S. has threatened to stop trading salmon with countries  that practice the slaughter of marine mammals.

Another concern stemming from questionable fishmeal is whether salmon  meat is artificially dyed to be pink. Salmon are pink because of  astaxanthin, a pigment found in krill and other crustaceans. But not  only does astaxanthin give the fish a pink tint, it’s a valuable source  of nutrients. In the place of feeding farmed salmon with costly  crustaceans, most fisheries feed fish a synthetic version of asthaxathin  in order to give the fish a natural colour. .......... http://www.naturalblaze.com/2017/07/data-reveals-farmed-salmon-to-be-one-of-the-most-toxic-foods-in-the-world.html

Human emotions being ruled by physics, Earth Custodians call    for  the adoption of a different  way of  thinking to promote conflict   resolutions. Different but not new, because  such concepts were  already    debated  two thousands years ago: they are  keys to grasp the   unhealthy  mechanics driving people's need  for power  structures, and    as how to  overcome them as well.
