The very beginnings of some inking on a sketch for a Poster idea for my Singularity world.
Entire image:
This is the VERY beginning of inking up the idea.
Here is the sketch of the basic layout I will use for this vintage style advertising poster piece.
I sketched this in real life and then scanned it and then began inking digitally. Here are both the inking layers on over the sketch. I can turn of the sketch as I ink over it, as you might do if you were using a sketch and then tissue paper of that or simply erasing lines (but much nicer to have main sketch there to call upon as needed)
Now, the idea behind this piece was already sort of rambling around my subconscious of late.
But my post two days ago outlining how I came to my Singularity series really encouraged me to go for it now. I mean, I had every intention of working on it, but was so happy to see that more than a few people seemed intrigued by my peculiar dive into this world, that I began sketching and thinking about it straight away.
My idea in this piece is to play on the advertising posters of the Belle Epoch. The posters for chocolates or concerts or what have you were so lovely in that time period.
One of my favourite artists who did make such posters was Alphonse Mucha.
And that entire Art Nouveau era had such flourish and was so rich in detail that in many ways it seems the antithesis of a modern streamlined computer world.
However, my storyline implies that with the advancement of computer implants and hybrid body parts and face implants for the wealthy, that a time of pure indulgence is being born.
That the separation of the haves and have-nots is growing great again, as it once was, and those at the top have the time, leisure, and desire to fill their days with the idea or ideal to be post-human and above the hoi polloi.
This bit I am sharing now is in its very early stages, as I have only roughed out an idea of a poster layout with a main figure in a lovely outfit, sporting some hybrid parts. I want there to be some other little bubbles or inserts in the piece (poster style) showing some legs or heads or other such parts, which is what the advertising is meant to be for. I have not figured out the wording as of yet, or what I shall call the company advertising the said parts; that will be fun, though.
#I truly feel that this world will feel much richer to me if I make things, like posters and advertising, that would have been seen by those in the beginning stages of the Singularity.
This would be before the time where my larger paintings are taking place. And in so doing, much like a character study for a novel or piece of fiction, it will help me to flesh out the world more and make it more real to me. It will also be a stand alone piece in and of itself, but I think it would also make an appearance, tattered and worn, on the wall next to one of my Singularity ladies, as of course it would be aged and ripped by their 'time'.
I know I go on about how much I love Steemit for it's artists community and support.
However, I really must say again that my own desire to spend so much of my 'art time' following a passion for a series of works that currently I am just making to share here, is very liberating. Of course, I shall do more with these, but the idea that this 'place' exists,
this virtual salon where one can express ideas and show works for feedback and discussion is really exciting.
But, I digress...
Do you like to sketch and make studies for pieces you work on or do you prefer to go straight to canvas or digital and make a final piece?
Do you like series works where the artist follows a theme and idea such as Monet's haystacks etc?
I hope my American followers are going to have a happy Memorial Day weekend. I know I am happy to be settled in now for the weekend. I had to prepare my cottage or a rental this weekend which meant I had to face Memorial Day traffic arriving on Cape Cod, but did that early so I could now hide away and draw and garden.
I hope all of you have a lovely weekend no matter what you do and make time to daydream.
