The Math-Trail Logo

A contest entry submitted by @deveerei

@math-trail has posted the competition to design a new logo for Math-Trail. This happened 10 days ago.

Every topic-trail currently uses the same logo. As there are hundreds of such trails I sometimes have to hover over an icon to see if it was me who gave that vote or another! So, I think it time to have a distinctive new logo that can be used both as the profile image and within articles.

They're rewarding the winner with 50 SBD. (Additional 20SBD as a discretionary prize may be given away too)

They have provided options for entrants, I have chosen Option A:

One thing that prompted me to have a new logo was the accidental creation of this image:

Yes, it somewhat resembles a whale and is also mathematical in that it illustrates the Pythagorean Theorem for quarter-circles constructed along the sides of a 3-4-5 triangle. Designers have commented that it is too flat and geometric to work as a logo as it stands, but could be used as a template.

They have provided the original line drawing (which I used) to make changes or improve the original design above.

Option B was more of a free-for-all type logo.

My submission was the very first image you see in this blog post (at the very top). I'm going to provide some explanation about the logo: The way I see it and why I made those improvements.

As you've noticed the logo has 3 distinctive fins. It may represent the life cycle of a Steemian: Minnow, Dolphin, & Whale.

The smallest fin is for the minnows. The larger one for the dolphins. Lastly, the largest (you've guessed it right!) is for the whales of Steemit.

The minnow has to swim along the platform to where the arrow points, and eventually become a dolphin. Minnows are receiving most of the shadows (if not all) of the platform and other bigger marine life making life a bit more difficult for them.

11.png

Dolphins still has shadows over them but not a lot. They're already established Steemians and just a few more push/swim they'll become a whale on top of the platform.

Whales, as I think, receive full exposure in the platform. They carry the whole platform's weight and all the other marine life in Steemit. Why? They're the biggest investors here. If all the whales are gone the ecosystem will probably collapse. They're the big guys everyone wants to be someday. It's really great that most (if not all) try to help all the other guys swimming below.

The sizes of the pies also determine the size they take up in the Steemit ecosystem, not necessarily proportional to the actual numbers.

The triangle at the middle represents the 3 shapes that make up the Steemit logo arranged in a way that they make up a Pythagorean Triple.

A right triangle where the sides are in the ratio of the integers 3:4:5.

Here are some meanings of the Triangle Symbol:

It is also said that triangles are the strongest shape.

Math-Trail written on a blackboard/chalkboard with chalk

This represents Learning, not really just in Math, but in many aspects building the whole Steemit platform.

Seeing a chalkboard, represents the classroom and the difficulties you may have experienced in school. There is a lesson to be learned from this dream. You may feel that you are being put to the test. Consider what is being written on the chalkboard.
